My memories of my childhood where: There used to be a big Lewis's department store in Leicester city centre (its gone now ) and they used to dress their windows up at christmas, it really captured the spirit and magic for kids at christmas. Going to see santa and Rudolf (Even now I still love to see Rudolf) Holidays in a tent at Cromer Theres lots more I could think of!.

Im glad I put this topic up folks, Had a good laugh and agreeing all the time.
Its not just for years ago though, its for childhood likes and dislikes so if you are under dare I say the age of 20 still join in. Its only meant to be a bit of fun and interesting too.
Jogged My memory I can tell you.
School Milk, Yuk. Warm and so creamy it made me sick. Ive never liked Milk to this day
The Rag and Bone Man.
What about the Pawn shop. We had one at the end of the road and I was fascinated by all the stuff crammed in at the windows.
The end of term school photos and having my hair combed through with the same comb for everyone.
The black gooey stuff put on your nails, if you bit them.
Freezing cold showers on sports days.
They would never get away with half of this now though would they.
Keep the memories coming, they are great!!!

Oh Yes Michelle Christmas, it was so magical and I think because it was in such a short space of time it was treasured. Now its rammed down our throats from Sept onwards and like everything else these days its so commercial.

This is a really interesting thread. Here's some of my childhood memories: Family seaside holidays where I'd make sandcastles and go on the funfair and go to amusement arcades when I was a bit older. Playing outside lots with friends and going out on my mountain bike. Watching Children's TV: things like Bertha, Postman Pat, Playschool, Superted, Bananaman, The Jetsons and Live and Kicking.

I hated the TB injection, I must have avoided that injection 5 times, some times I wouldn't come to school pretending I was ill or another excuse, I had it in the end lol The nit nurse, she was so heavy handed. The rag and bone man (Yes my street still has one ) I remember when I was in nursery when we had a small bottle of milk every morning, well that was before Margaret Thatcher took it off kids.

cor blimey! whenever i fell and hurt my knees....my mum used to put iodine on it...that hurt even more than the fall...ouch! i remember the school milk..and i don't like it very much these days either...i hate warm or hot milk and can't stand milky puddings.. i really drink milk in my tea and coffee..but then only a little bit...lol! what else... big, glass bottles of lemonade and cream soda...taking the empties back to the shop for 10p! listening to my mum's Abba and Beatles records...;D i am not sure i liked the nit nurse either...but then...who did? standing at the end of the road and poking out my tongue at the man who ran the petrol station..and then running away..... - i only did it the once though... my earliest memory is of when i was about 4 or 5 and i got myself out of my bed..went down the stairs...opened up the front door...stood on the doorstep and locked myself out... my feet were very red with cold by the time my mum heard my knocking...lol! watching my dad shave...(i was about 5 or 6 then and he was my daddy...) i think that i went 'scrumping' (if that is the right phrase) with my elder brother...i just remember him pinching apples from the tree of a neighbours house...lol! my brother and i both got chicken pox at the same time...well he got it from me, i think...oops! going to the local Hornby Railway shop at the Angel, Islington with my grandad...he wanted to buy some trees and a sign for his train set... my grandad picking me up from school one day, wearing a rainmac and a beret...he looked like Frank Spencer...bless him... there are many precious memories...and we keep them all safe within our hearts and minds...nobody can take those away from us.... Just thought of a classic, Spoons of I think was it Cod Liver Oil, to keep the colds etc at Bay. I was lucky didnt have it but was given Virol which was a malted type vitamin.
Gas and Air at the dentist, Not being able to eat for ages beforehand. That mask coming over your face, ooh yuk.
Happier times, though, Going to the Seaside, to the Zoo, on Holiday and on the Train, Loved going on a Train.

I remember when I was at school, and went to the school dentist for check ups, only to have a lollipop, for being good in the chair. defeating the object, if you ask me.

Talk of school milk reminded me of when I was at Primary school back in the dark ages, milk came in small 1/3rd pint bottles, one winter the crate of milk had been left outside and was frozen, the teacher brought it in and put it in front of the fire, yes we had coal fires in the classroom, what would Health and Safety have to say about that nowadays??? when it had warmed up we were made to drink it, and I was promptly sick all over the teacher. Ah happy days.
