We had a little argument the other night between two players. One says its a split pot, the other says they win, & I dont know the right answer. Here is the scenerio:
Player 1: queen, eight, offsuit Player 2: queen, four, offsuit Flop: King, three, seven, Turn: Queen River: Duece
Nothing suited, so no hope for a flush. Both players have a pair of queens, the kicker is the King from the flop. So the question is does player 1 win because he has the next highest card(8) in his hand or is it a split pot.
Thanks for any insight... and if anyone knows a good website that has good rules and examples I would appreciate that info as well.
Queen eight wins. Pokers a 5 card game, so you have to make the best 5 card hand available and Q,Q,K,8,7 beats Q,Q,K,7,4. Incidentally a kicker is an unpaired card only you can use. If its a community card you can't say its a kicker, so player 1 has a queen with an 8 kicker . Player 2 has a queen with a 4 kicker.
If you are looking for a basic rule guide i would try soyouwanna.com . If you look up poker in the AtoZ you will find the basic and examples.
