i loved this episode! i thought the stuff with the kids was really good and i don't usually pay attention to the patients storylines! maybe cos i live in a pretend world in my head too, i could relate!
loved neela in this ep, the blue lady rocks!
and aaw near the end when luka held abbys hand.
the whole pratt punch thing really got on my nerves, was just stupid.

Do you know what happened to the boy who suddenly got everything he ever dreamed of? He lived happily ever after.
the only bit i did like was the sweet ending with abby and luka and neela with the little boy. it was sort of similar to last weeks with morris and the multiple personality person.
WHERE WAS MORRIS????

I wasn't too fussed on this one I have to say. I wanted Luka to tell Abby about the frog...I know he was probably just trying not to scare her or whatever but he should have told her. I agree that old man will be back..hubby asked me if it could be Abby's Dad...I scoffed at that first but he did actually say 'I have a son and daughter of my own'...what do we know about Abby's Dad? (These aren't spoilers by the way...just speculation...and I don't want spoilers in answer!!)
I liked the Gates/Meg scene...they both acted well and it will be interesting to see if he can leave them for Neela...think Meg will put up a bit of a fight!
I was gonna ask on here why Gates keeps calling Neela Mayday -I thought I'd missed something...but then she said herself she doesn't even know what it means- meh? Wouldn't she have asked before now why he keeps calling her that? Odd.
Missed Morris hugely. And I could see the Weaver/Courtenay storyline a mile off. Should still be good though.
Ooh yeah and Hope/Pratt...that was sweet when she went with him to the church...and I'm glad Pratt asked Chaz to come back. Incidentally though, I could have sworn Hope was her second name and her first name was Felicity..I'm almost SURE someone called her Felicity in the first ep...did I totally dream this? But no...Hope is her first name. Oh well.
Gates called Neela Mayday in their first wpisode together, when she was on the ambulence ridealong (Two Ships I think) - round about the last time I didn't roll my eyes all the way into the bcak of my head when he appeared on screen.
Pretty underwhelming episode I thought; I couldn't muster up much in the way of sentiment for the homeless kids except for when the boy was struggling to touch his nose - I teared up at that for some reason.
I don't mind Gates so much when he isn't sucking face with some female or other. He deserves some credit for coming clean with Meg and she deserves some censure for the thinly veiled threat about him losing the relationship with Sarah (now then, I wonder where that might be going).
Anyone remembering what Abby said to Joyce Westlake in ASTOF might be surprised at the approach she took with Mrs Hadley; I think Luka was right - the husband wasn't going to get himself sorted out voluntarily and if, as the wife said, it was nothing, then the police would do nothing. Abby jumping straight to assuming he'd be "locked up with a bunch of criminals" (who might also ascribe their situation to drink)was unpleasant; Luka's concern was for the wife's safety and Abby's concern for the husband probably a reflection of her understanding his situation. The contrast between how she dealt with this and how she dealt with Joyce is interesting I think; is she taking the fact that she got her own act together and now has it all and projecting it onto Mr H?
"Let's try this - you be the resident and I'll be the attending". Damned right. I also like Luka's snippy sarcasm to Frank. After the spoilers I was expecting the discord between Luka and Abby to be much greater; when Abby left for Ike's she didn't seem to be "p*ssed" as per the direction in the original spoiler so much as mildly annoyed.
Ames the frognapper: I'm assuming that the nameless, messageless calls were from him and I can see why Luka is feeling very uneasy. At the same time I can see how they're going for a "Gaslight" effect here with almost everything being susceptible to an innocent interpretation (I could see the bemused scepticism on the face of the PC) and that Luka has allowed his imagination to run away with himself.
But there is a fundamental flaw to the way this is being written, and that is that Luka is in no way being protective of Abby and Joe in any practical sense. At this stage he may feel that all Ames is trying to do is creep him out and wants to [lay it down (although he has to be wondering how Ames got hold of the frog) but he's seen Ames at close quarters and knows how obsessed he is, even if the last time he saw him he appeared to be more reasonable. So this is all feels a bit creaky.
And the guy from the bar is obviously going to be back... I wonder if he's got anything to do with Ames.
Hey you know when Luka was leaving the bar at the end of show did anyone see Ames walking by in the background at the moment when Luka was leaving the bar and then glanced back at that guy who was sitting at the bar.
Gah - stupid edit function; I meant to say that Luka feels that she is his wife in all but name; he feels married to her but obviously can't say that they are in fact married.
She is his 'commonlaw wife' I guess if they live together no?
V. interesting comments on the episode Mrs E, thanks hadn't thought about the way Abby treated Mr H in that way before- but I also liked the line 'You be the resident..' good to see Luka ascerting himself and Abby not getting all huffy about it. I thought it was good that she didn't push him to tell her what was bugging him...shows she has matured!
Yes - A Simple Twist of Fate. Abby's neighbour is brought in having been roughed up by her husband and Abby gives her a speech to the effect that it doesn't matter how sweet his is the rest of the time this isn't acceptable and the fact that she's been hospitalised and the police called is her opportunity to get out of a crappy and abusive relationship. She says all this watched by Luka; if I were him I'd be a bit surprised by her volte face. The fact that this involves a drinker (Brian Westlake wasn't, he just had anger issues), means that the two cases aren't directly analogous, but it does invite the comparison with who Abby has now pulled her own arse out of the fire and salvaged her life. Perhaps that's why she's so ready to see it from Mr H's POV where Luka is concerned with the victim of the abuse.
i thought this episode was a bit meh too really. neela was quite good in it again but the amount of time spent on gates kinda annoys me still, although not as much as at the start of the series cos the storylines slightly better but i just cant help feeling indifferent to "the saviour of er"
i know some people think that the lubyness is too much sometimes but i think that more could have been done with this storyline given its dynamics but from the e4 ads and the coming up part i guessing they'll be appearing a lot in the next epi so that might explain it
am also glad to see carrie and happy that it looks like she might start to have a decent ongoing storyline for the first time in a while. but no morris! this is an outrage
yer didnt really like the children bit apart from the fact the boy called neela the blue lady which amused me for some reason! probably cos im so simple!
preet was annoying, especially with gates, very unbothered about that but hopefully the storyline with his brother will show him in a different light and be better
finally... i am loving hope! i think she's hilarious and i think her and morris should so get together cos it would just be so funny!
although i dident really enjoy the kids storyline.
at first i was sure that the old man in the bar would have somthing to do with Ames, but having read clareyfairy_'s post i thought i could have quite easly been abbys father. dident he say he was in the hospital to find some one but couldent bring himslef to it?
oh yeah i loved kerry i hope they keep her storyline going.
This is the answer to the question that has not been asked, enquiring as to which song is played when Pratt goes after his half-brother in the street. I think it's this song. And I suspect it may be asked because, yknow, it's a pretty nice song.
Anyway, this was pretty much a quite sweet episode.
I like Pratt and Hope and their church escapades, although, yknow - creepy priests are never that cool.
Kerry's Saving Of The Day was hilariously melodramatic. Looks like she's found a new love interest though...
I reckon Ames is on the fence, deciding whether or not to be all-out-scary or to just drop it. I hope, for the sake of seeing more Forest Whitaker vs. Luby, that he'll pick the former. Who doesn't like a really scary BAFTA-winner stalking your family? NOBODY, that's who.

Bit of a dull episode. Lack of Ray and Morris. Nice to hear Luka refer to Abby as his wife. Plus, can't blame Luka for being suss about the guy at the bar with all that is going on with Ames. The homeless kids story was ok, but bleech at next week's preview re Neela/Gates.
this episode wasnt as good as last week, but i still enjoyed it. i think Luka should've told Abby about the frog thing - but i can understand why he didn't. he through it away in the end suggesting that he thinks thats the last of it maybe?? ... but somehow i doubt that it is. When he looked suspiciously at the man in the bar, that hinted that it was something to do with Ames - but i really don't think it is. Ames doesn't really have many friends any more and he certainly wouldn't bring anyone else into the situation (whatever it may be).
The whole blue lady thing was werid - i've been wondering why Gates calls Neela Mayday for ages now, it really annoys me not knowing - and i still don't know! lol. but i am actually starting to like him. The punching thing was a bit weird - & it was over almost as quickly as it came!
but i am a little annoyed that they show everything in the adverts - what a surprise Pratt hit Gates (knew that already), what a surprise. Whats that? Pratt's brother is gay? (knew it from the advert again). And from the preview for next week it - i more than i want to know again!!
oh well - next week does look really good though!! can't wait
