I think last season E4 was showing it like a week or two after it had been shown in the US. Also in case you didn't realise america hasn't seen the new series yet and won't till like september or January depending on their schedule.
In America they have long breaks whilst the series is being shown, which is why we manage to catch up with them, even though we dont get it till later.
I read somewhere that the schedule in the US is going to change next season. My understanding is that the first 12 episodes will be shown on a weekly basis starting on 21 Sept. until Christmas. Then a break until April 5th to complete S13 with another weekly ten-episode run until early June.
I have not seen a schedule for C4 but I think this change in the US means that we might see a Christmas or mid-season cliffhanger. So lets hope C4/E4 won't take a mid-season break.
From what I have seen it has something to do with the ratings.
In the past there were indeed gaps in between episodes during which a lot of repeats went out. If my understanding is correct S13 will go out without breaks ( ex. the Christmas one ) and no re-runs in an attempt to get the ratings up. Last season ER went out on a Thursday night and to lose the precious Thursday night time slot seems to be a big deal in the US. Probably something to do with advertising etc. but don't quote me on this because I'm not an expert on how American telly works.

I think that a lot of people just didn't catch the new episodes when they were on because they had so many breaks between the episodes where they would just show re-runs, and people wouldn't know when the new episodes were actually being shown.
i liked er why do they have to have a break! but i guess to make room for big bro now that thats ending i dont no what else im gunna watch! Bring ER back!!

I did! I downloaded canon city and nobody's baby,(in English, of course!) and the last two episodes (the gallant hero and the tragic victor and 21 guns) but the other ones are too slow to download so I have to wait...it's unfair!

i havent heard of it before but have just found it, is it good?can you download other episodes of er from different series from it?
yes it's good...but quite slow i think there are all er episodes...but the last ones (season 12) are the fastest to download...the older ones are very very slow... if you're ready to wait everything is possible with emule!

If CH4/E4 dont wont to take a break mid season then the only other choice is not to start showing the season later on in the year like feb or march because they just cant show it before USA does lol.
And i think the OP was referring to the Rep of Ireland, RTE always start showing it in the beginning of December but that means we have to take a mid season break because we've caught up with USA an its really frustrating when they just stop showing it for a few weeks
