Well, no-one else had posted a topic so thought I would. I've read some comments saying they hated this episode...but I have to disagree. I thought it was bloody brilliant!
I think I liked every cast members performance this week! Well...except Gates but whats new! I admit that parts were a little cheesy and predictable but so what? It was still a great episode.
I think that one of the reasons the ratings were low in USA for this episode is because NBC rarely promote it! So I think some people don't even know its on! And also that week, it was unfortunately up against the new Greys Anatomy spinoff which put quite a big dent in the ratings. NBC don't appreciate this show anymore.
Anyway, back to the episode. I'm a guy and I loved the wedding stuff. I've watched ER since the beginning so was a bit weird to see Luka and Abby getting maried after almost 8yrs on the show! Would have been nice to have seen Maggie and a couple of old cast members but I guess that would have taken away from the performances of Maura and Goran...who were both very good, especially Maura!
Loved Hope and Morris! Really liked the bit with Morris recording the staff! Meh to Gates...hate him! Liked Neela...was funny when Mae Lee kissed her! lol...kinda hot too! Oh yeah Ray was ok too...had something to do for a change!
One of the best episodes of the past couple of seasons in my opinion!
I agree; I don't think I've grinned as much at an episode of ER, well, ever.
The various double takes at the Rabbi by Luka, Pratt and Abby; Luka smacking Morris's camera out of his face; Dubenko's "I will hunt you down like a cheetah"; Hope and Morris doing karaoke; Timmy propositioning everyone and Frank's "What do you want form me, a second opinion?" to Malik - all laugh out loud funny for me.
I'm not mad keen on Ray but agreed with everything he said to Gates. But Neela -what exactly is it that she'sbeen trying to work out? I haven't seen a single moment or heard a damned word of that soul searching so she just seems silly to me.
Yes, the whole thing was this close to beingand high spirits of everyone involved and the obvious sincerity of the vows totally saved it.
I'll never hear "Don't Go Breaking My Heart" or "I Don't Feel Like Dancing" again without thinking of this wedding.
Damned edit function; the penultimate paragraph of my post should read " ... was this close to being terribly cheesy, but the high spirits of everyone involved ..." etc.
ermm.... after the channel 4 change over, i am a little confused as to what is a spoiler - does that just mean talking about future episodes yeah? so we can discuss all that happened in this one right? well i will right all about it, so if you haven't seen it you probably won't want to read this post.
-i thought this was a great episode and i was grinning throughout too - mainly because of how HOT Luka looked this week!!!! oh my goodness , he was looking fit/fine/hot/gorgeous/cute/etc!! i loved his suits, and the way he smiles i'm so happy for him and Abby!!
-and about the plot, i kind of could predict what would happen from the preview from last week, but it was great anyway. And i saw an inteview with GV online, where he was talking about it and he kind of gave it away that they did get married. but i thought it was great how they did it. it was so sweet how Luka had-such a sweety that man! Abby was really not enthusiastic in the beginning, but Luka knew she would pull through lol. and it was great when Joe showed up!
-and i can't really believe i'm saying this, but Morris and Hope are so good together! lol, i loved how it was a traditional wedding with people fighting, people crying and lots of people kissing lol. Dubenko is still making me cringe!! --- kissing Neela (Poor girl!) and threatening Kovac, lol -- as if he could ever have him in a fight!
- where was Abby's poem from?
-And just when you think there is a finally a future for Neela - the lorry comes and ruins it for them!! i hope he survives, but obviously if he has, we won't immediately know because their ER is shut and he would've gone to another one. And there i was thinking Ray was actually gonna get a proper storyline for once! lol.
-the title is a bit misleading - you think instead of 'I do' at the alter, there will be an 'i don't' - but i suppose there has already been an episode entitled 'i do' (which was another of my faves).
- Neela looked amazing in this episode i thought!! no wonder she had everyone after her!!
- one more thing: it was funny when That guy (sorry i forget his name) was telling all the nurses they were the prettiest! lol!
* * * R.I.P THE O.C
JD: "you have a tough day at the office, so you come home, make yourself some dinner, smother you kids, pop in a movie, maybe have a drink. It's fun right? Wrong. Don't smother your kids."
I have to agree with Mrs Eyre that this so easily could have been a cheese fest but the performances - particularly from Maura & Goran instead made it heart-warming & funny! I must admit to welling up in a few places (which doesn't often happen) - Abby finally saying "I love you. I do" & laughing out loud "I WILL hunt you down". Morris & Hope were adorable & I really liked the Luka we saw in this ep - sweet, charming, thoughtful & loving - he's been a bit distant recently. Abby was great too - totally unsure but then fully embracing the meaning of the day - I liked her poem! Still meh Gates - go Ray for telling him the truth but pants for him getting hit by a truck - he was just getting a storyline! There were a few obvious bits but this was a very good episode - better than what you usually get on wedding episodes.
i carry your heart with me(i carry it in my heart)i am never without it(anywhere i go you go,my dear; and whatever is done by only me is your doing,my darling) i fear no fate(for you are my fate,my sweet)i want no world(for beautiful you are my world,my true) and it's you are whatever a moon has always meant and whatever a sun will always sing is you
here is the deepest secret nobody knows (here is the root of the root and the bud of the bud and the sky of the sky of a tree called life;which grows higher than the soul can hope or mind can hide) and this is the wonder that's keeping the stars apart
JD: "you have a tough day at the office, so you come home, make yourself some dinner, smother you kids, pop in a movie, maybe have a drink. It's fun right? Wrong. Don't smother your kids."
I thought it was hilarious when Neela was speaking Punjabi, talking about going shopping and stuff..I thought I had misheard, but when she told Hope the same, I was killing myself laughing, lol.. Neela getting kissed by Mae Lee and Dubenko was rather random, lol
I thought Abby and Luka's vows were beautiful..
And the whole Neela, Ray, Gates thing is so annoying...I wish she just went with Ray from the beginning..
*** *** *** *** Lorelai: "Look, I've been around a long time okay..I wore leggings the last time they were trendy..."
Reporter: "The show is really analyzed." Lauren Graham: "By who? Those crazy internet people?"
I loved this episode so much. I started to well up during the wedding ceremony, and by the vows I was a crying mess So many comedy moments with Hope & Morris, Neela & the reading But, what a sad ending. Typical when Neela finally ditches Gates and chooses Ray, it looks like it's too late. Gutting as a Reela fan. God, I loathe Gates even more after this episode.
LOVED this episode! At first I was disapointed with the surprise wedding thing, did'nt really think it was very them. But the comedy to come from it and the ceromony itself was brilliant, couldn't stop grinning throughout! Abby was fantastic! really hilarious at times and then really well played out emotion when getting married. Luka was obviously amazing too, can't believe how confident he was that Abby would go along with the whole thing, but I guess it shows how well they know each other and was pretty damn funny! Wedding's definitely suit Luka- very hot! Interesting night for Neela! Loved her face when Mae Lee kissed her. Typical all that attention and the one person she actually wants to be with gets hit by a truck! That's when you know the Gods aren't on your side! It kind of annoyed me actually, I was happy for the day to be about luby and now all the staff are gonna remenber it as the day Ray got himself run over! I hope he doesn't die though, that would be a harsh blow for Neela. Yeay Neela and Abby actually had a conversation! That was another of my fav bits actually, (there are just so many!) and an acknowledgement that Abby hadn't been round much was good too, I'd be pretty mad if they'd just picked it up like they'd been as close throughout this series as before. Kind of like they did with Luka and Pratt. Yeah Luka was his mentor ect but I felt like it was just thrown in as a matter of convenience but I guess that's what happens when you throw a surprise wedding! Yeay Mope or Horris! Finally they got it together! Hope was very ott in this one but still hilarious and I love her anyway! And Morris is alway great. Some of my fav quotes (too many to get them all in!) Abby to Luka before her vows: "that's not really fair because you got to practice" flower girl and Abby: "why do you have to be so whiney?" "Why do you have to be such a cry baby?" Dubenko: "If you hurt Abby, I'll hurt you" Luka "OK" Timmy "Anyone ever told you your the hottest nurse in the ER?" Chuny "Yeah!" Malik "Timmy said I was the hottest nurse in the Er" Frank "what do want from me a second opinion?" Abby: "I carry my heart in your heart..." Few small things I didn't like but overall loved it. Yeay luby are married can't believe this wasn' the finale though it would of been perfect! But if it means a few more weeks of ER then I'm not complaining!
Isn't it interesting (and rather lovely) that the spontaneous reaction to this episode for many seems to have been to grin like an idiot all the way through? I think that's exactly what David Zabel was going for with the way it was set up, and the obvious delight of the cast really pulled it off.
That said, I did find the Gates/Ray/Neela interludes an annoying distraction. They relly could have waited. I'd rather have had some scenes with the nurses talking than watch Neela wibble some more or Gates throwing his toys out of the pram about Meg. Blech. Still, it did lead to one brilliant moment - Morris's reaction when Ray played the Meg card at the bar. I love Scott grimes.
I loved this epi - not sure I have much to add to all the other positive comments but I do have a question.
For me the best moment was when Abby finally said that she loved Luka. Am I correct in thinking this is the first time she has said I love you to anyone on the show? If so, the fact that the writers have resisted her saying it to Luka for so long even after all they have been through was pretty cool writing IMO. I know she told Luka that she loved 'all of this' when he asked her to marry him earlier in the season, but I don't recollect her ever actually saying to Luka 'I love you'. For me this adds extra to the epi with those 3 words having extra value said in the context they were..
She's never said those words in a romantic context - she told her mother and brother that she loved them but that's it. She answered "Of course we do!" to Luka's "Don't we love each other?" on "21 Guns" and "I don't need a ring and a white dress to show that I love you" in "Graduation Day" but an out and out, unequivocal declaration -no. And I agree, that she said it all after all these years is a huge thing - and it was so heartfelt.
Well, I'm with the rest of the public, in the US at least, I hated this Ep, which by the way was extensively trailed over there . There was an extra long trailer for it, so that wasn't why it had such low ratings. I think it was because there was no medicine in this drama, which is supposed to be about doctors and the script contained just about every sloppy cliche you could possibly to cram into one programme
I love ee cummings, especially his love poems, which is why I found MT's mauling of it, even if it was on purpose, akin to blasphemy. It was horrible.
I won't say any more. I said it all before in the spoiler thread. Sorry, but I truly thought this was the worst episode of ER I have ever seen . I watched it a few weeks ago, and I thought of watching it again on Monday to see if I could change my mind, but I couldn't face it, so maybe I missed something that you all liked, but I can't think what it could be.
The eisode went up against a two hour special of Greys Anatomy. Not sure where you get the idea that everyone in the US hated it; if they didn't watch it how can they hate it? Certainly comments on MBs all over the place have been in line with those here.
I have yet to see any wedding on TV which wasn't liberally sprinkled with cliches; it's in the nature of the thing. Some effort was made to make it different at least.
Worst episode ever? Not by a long chalk in my book. Any episode that includes just about everyone - and didn't even give itself over in its entirety to the couple getting married - gains a lot of points with me.
I've been thinking about this episode since it finished on midnight Monday.
One line summary: One of the great feel-good episodes featuring a stinging sucker punch.
"I don't" was a naff title though. I would have called it "Meatloaf". (Abby's great comment / the food / the ending) Ha ha.
I'm with the majority of posters here, this was just a brilliant episode. It was hugely amusing and entertaining, predictable in places but the cliches weren't that bad come on. (or perhaps my experience of real and tv weddings is very limited) However, come the final credits, I was left very disappointed and annoyed. Shocked, but mainly saddened by the "character development" of Ray.
No need to repeat the highlights already mentioned by you good people. Though I should flag up Morris and Hope for singing "Don't go breaking my heart", only because it was No.1 in the charts when I was born. :-)
Very interesting to read Wyle Away's comments. The no medicine thing, what do you think of other ER episodes with no medicine? How about "Fathers and Sons" from Season 4? (Doug & Mark go on a roadtrip...)
I'm with my fellow man C1508. Easily one of the best episodes of recent seasons. At the moment I'd rank it higher than "21 Guns".
