Hey guys, have you heard of this?

Bookcrossing.com

I "found" a book last week and think its a great idea, unfortunately it was a Graham Greene book and I am not a big fan, but I will read it and see how I go!

I lurve Patricia Cornwell! The only book of hers that i'm not too keen on is the one she wrote about Jack the Ripper. It seemed like she took a theory, and only wrote about the possibilities of it being true, and ignored the fact that they pretty much knew it wasn't. But i may just be weird because i've read loads of Jack the Ripper books (oh the shame...)

At the moment I'm reading 3 books. The Da Vinci Code (which, no doubt, quite a few people on here have probably already read and discussed), Fatal by Michael Palmer, and When the Bough Breaks by Johnathan Kellerman.

I'm reading the book about Fred and Rose West and 'The Gloucester House of Horrors', by the journalist who broke the story, Harold Sounes. Makes for very harrowing and distressing reading...they killed two of their own children!! It really is unbelievable...but I find it disturbing that people want to read about it (including myself) Confused

it is strange that people find things like that interesting, (also including myself) think about ER though, it's a program about people getting hurt! or poirot, diagnosis murder etc, they are all about murder!

I finished The Dark Mirror by Juliet Marrilier...great story about a boy who is taen in by a wise mage. He is destined to be a great leader of the Picts and his training starts at the age of 4. But fate throws in a curve and leaves a newborn baby girl on the doorstep one day. Taking in that baby turns out to be two very different things for the two males. Really amazing and fantastic stuff.
Also gonna read Meg Cabot's Mediater series. Looks good.

I'm not reading anything at the moment. I go through spells where I will always have some book I am reading for 6 months or so(different books, not just the 1 for 6 months!!), then don't read anything for a while and then eventually see something I really want to read and start off again!

I have a graham greene book but can't really be bothered to start reading it. I guess I will have to be in the mood!

Finished reading "The Time Traveler's Wife" by Audrey Niefenegger last night.

This is a really unusual story about the relationship between Clare and Henry. Clare first met henry when she was 6 and he was 36, but he didnt meet her until he was 28 and she was 20. Henry has a rare genetic disorder that causes him to be pulled out of his present and he lands mostly in his or his wife's past or future.

I found it quite original in the way that the story was told. Its very readable, gripping and emotional. I thoroughly recommend it.

Just started "Nights of Rain and Stars" (I think thats the title) by Maeve Binchy. I love her books, although her most recent ones have lacked some of the spark of her earlier novels.

My favourites of hers are Echoes and Firefly Summer, but especially Echoes. It might have been the first book where I cried at the end.

They murdered the story in the film of Circle of Friends. Frown

I finished Every Boy's Got One by Meg Cabot....in the space of a couple of hourse i was THAT addicted! Its not as if the story line was VERY original and i know this kind of chik lit is everywhere but this book is wickedly funny!
Jane Harris is a cartoonist, the creator of Wondercat a newspaper cartoon that is popular! She likes ketchup on her chips and has a yen for our very own Dr Luka Kovac! For that alone many of you will read the book i am sure! I really enjoyed it and as i have enjoyed all Meg Cabots books am gonna read her Mediater series next!

Linda I just read the new Tony Parsons too- (The Family Way right?)
I thought it was pretty poor to be honest. The writing was really sloppy in places. The story was good but I really felt more could have been done with it. Not a patch on Man and Boy.
What do you think of it?

I totally agree, I'm really disappointed with the book so far but I will stick with it!

Heh. Smile Is that the one about the whale? I always think I should read some really intelligent stuff, so do my teachers, but I just get really bored with that sort of thing. I'm mostly interested in the human bits, I get really annoyed with long descriptions of sea and countryside or buildings. Some lit student huh?! Roll Eyes

I did read the Handmaid's Tale on holiday though, which is kinda a modern classic. I loved it. And it's wierd, 'cos I wrote a short story before I'd read any of Atwood's work, and I can see some similarities in the way I write sometimes, though obviously I'm no way as good. I wish. Big Grin
