Yeah, it's the weird. They seem to have cut the opening credits and it's not right somehow...

Yeah, I think it's kinda different now. But probably because there are so many different characters.
I've got over the 'no theme tune' thing now. I guess it's so they can squeeze more drama in!

Spreading the Carby Love

I spend 23 hours a day wondering whether we’re wrong for each other, wondering whether the baggage we both bring would be enough to sink a small ship...But in the 24th hour, I realise I’ve been thinking about her for 23 hours and it always comes back to, there's something about her that I can’t stay away from. Something about her, that makes me wanna…love her.

You're talking about a change to a couple of minutes out of a 45 minute show; not the same ER? Good grief.

no theme tune doesnt affect how good the show is.

BUT i used to love that theme tune - got me all excited and in the mood for some great drama!!

also was great for if you were out of the room and when you heard the da da of the beginning you knew to make that cup of tea in 2 seconds flat!!

lol, i don't miss the old theme too much - i figure that if the theme title takes up less time, there is more time for the show.
but i do like the old title sequence where benson punches the air - that always makes me laugh for some reason..

I know the opening titles shouldn't be a big issue but consider this:

12 years of the same theme. Thats 266 episodes ! The opening titles have been important to the success of the show:- the pounding music draws the viewer in as the main cast members are shown. One of Dr Benton's best moments will forever be that crouching karate punch. (which appears in the pilot episode).
It wouldn't be so bad if the theme was rubbish, but the dynamic opening is an excellent piece of music. One of the best in modern tv drama.

The new credits barely last long enough to notice them.
For me the opening titles were sacrosanct. A totally essential element of the wonderful show. Did the makers of Friends, Mash, Taxi, Cheers, The Simpsons et al ever consider changing the theme tune? I very much doubt it & ask yourself why.

Okay, the show remains, but with the original opening titles gone they have cheapened the grand legacy of this great show.

I must say I agree with all the above! While it doesn't bother me *that* much anymore and doesn't change the quality of the show as such...I just don't understand why after 12 seasons they changed it.

Yes, it gives like a minute more of drama but it actually annoys me more that all the names come up on the screen for way longer into the show...spoiling our enjoyment of that 'extra drama'.

If it ain't broke...don't fix it.

No, your name's not Susan and it never will be

Well for me the opening credits and theme were things I wanted to be over so I could actually start watching the action. Seems I'm in a minority though!

I watched the opening of CSI last night (not my favourite show - too much gore ) and noticed that the opening tune (The Who Song) and the credits went past very quickly and yet,in traditional style, you got to see all the cast pictured with their names underneath the way they used to with ER. If they wanted to save time they could just have speeded the credits up a bit (or dropped a couple of the actors, who never do much these days, off the opening credits, but that's more conteversial). I really don't believe dropping the tune and the picture credits can save very much time ... a minute ot two perhaps? I'm not enough of an anorak - yet! to actually time them both and do a comparison ???

I agree however that putting the actors' names at the bottom over the story as it is going on is distracting. OK they've always done it for lesser actors and guests etc, but adding the main actors means even more time spent trying to look at two things at the same time. I really can't see the point of changing what was a perfectly good - in fact brilliant - credit sequence and tune.

Agreed not the most important thing. The content of the season is more important, but for those of you who've only seen 4 epis, it's too soon to judge, so I'll keep my thoughts on that to myself.

Good grief??

So what, yes it's just two minutes out of the whole show, but to me it was an essential part of the WHOLE show...as others here have stated too!
And why change it now after all these years?? I agree with everything Wendell said. Smile

Well, you think what you think; I just can't get terribly exercised about it.

I do think changing the theme tune this far into the show was strange, maybe they had to.

ER has a lenght of time it can play before other showes come on, so maybe the actual show is on longer so they cut the opening bit when they show the actors and actresses.

I have to say i don't watch ER for the credits bit and probably nether do the rest of you so the show may not have thought this would be missed and thought the fans would want to see more drama!!

I understand everyones concern for the show and it is so good that we don't want anything changed! But more ER makes me happy as it is only on once a week!!

So i think we need to focus on more seriouse matters at hand like, what is the deal with Neela and Ray??? I just wish they would get it over with and get toghter so we can all stop waiting!!

Its dosent sound right some how, I think the title music was part of the whole show. The new title music also means that now you have to have all the regular cast members names along the bottom on the first sceene which I find off putting because it goes on so long.

OK. I love ER -really, I do - BUT am i the only one who is watching it now just because I always have?

The last two seasons just didn't grab me and this one isn't much better. I have seasons 1 to 5 on DVD and probably will get season 6 but after that I won't bother.

I don't care about the characters the way I used to, not even Luka and Abby although I liked them in previous seasons. Has there been some change in the way in which the series is being written? Has the emphasis changed from characters to individual cases or the other way around? What am I missing? I can't put my finger on it - and it's not just the theme music.

You know what. When I watched the first episode and the titles were gone I was all *what's going on here*. And that's it basically. I'm over it now, used to it all ready.

Lets get on with the show!

It is a different show to 13 years ago. Just as in life. I'm sure we are all very different to how we were 13 years ago.

I like it for what it is now. There was a period, about 3 years ago, when it was getting pretty dull. But I think they've done a good job livening it up again. They have a variety of different characters to spice things up.

I do wish that they would spend more time on the medical cases sometimes though.

I have seen most of what has gone out in the US. I think S13 is excellent but very different from S12. Imo S12 was one of the best seasons ever, however I think in S12 there were some brilliant episodes and some which didn't do it for me. I don't really get that from S13 if that makes any sense. However there is still a lot of S13 to come and I prefer to reserve judgement until I have seen the whole thing...

As far as the opening credits are concerned I haven't lost any sleep over it. I'm more interested in the quality of the show. Personally I would prefer no credits and more ER.

i loved series 12, i really did. i could watch the episodes again and again. i think its because i loved the whole Luby storyline. i liked seeing them get together and then she got pregnant it was brilliant, now in series 13 i feel theres nothing to look forward to in their storylines....but i maybe wrong...something brewing i can tell but its not to do with their love life(which i think is the best bit). thats what i thinks missing anyway ...a bit of luby magic!
