I was very puzzled as to why Luka was so weak in this episode. As the person in charge, given that he didn't really agree with her (well, no one else did), why did he just let Abby do what she wanted? He's the attending and she's just an R2. He should have been the person to got to if there was a dispute about whether the patient had agreed to a procedure or not. He just seemed to bow out and let her get on with it. Would she really be allowed to do that? Is he so besotted that he lets her run the show?
I think the problem with the epi was that the story line didn't make much sense and all those flash backs to years agoe didn't work as it was obvious that the actors were present day actors and they , therefore, all looked the same age. It was very clunky. The whole continuity was amaturish.
James Woods is a terrific actor and the strength of his performance did show up the rather one dimensional nature of some of the other acting. I thought Sam's was the most naturalistic reaction, but maybe that was because it was straight forward. She didn't have to try and remember past meetings with the professor etc etc, which made it easier, and her reactions made more sense.
Abby on the ice at the end was also really corny. I've always liked the occasional one patient or one issue episode, but this wasn't as good as most of them are.
I hate to go on, but it's another example, of what isn't quite right these days. The actors are still good, the filming is still OK. Mainly it's the writing I have problems with. THey need a good script.
Did anyone watch the Morgan Spurlock programme about the minimum wage in the US that was on after ER yeaterday? Now that was grippping and shocking.

I don't know that it was the acting that was at fault so much as the material that almost everyone but Abby had to work with was rather thin. And the retconning which was necessary because of the flashbacks didn't seem very well thought out.

I quite enjoyed this episode. Yes, it was slow - but I don't think that equates to 'boring'. I think what we've got to remember is that the show's been around for 12 years now, and with 22 episodes per year, it is really difficult for TPTB to come up with completely original storylines (not only that haven't been done in this show before, but also haven't been covered in House, Grey's Anatomy etc. etc.) Just one question: Was Sam cold for the whole day?? She had her coat on, indoors, for pretty much the entire episode!! quote: It was interesting the way they referred to Greene and I thought i heard Romano's name mentioned too.
Yes, they did. You had to listen really carefully though! I remember thinking 'that was the good old days, when he'd got 2 arms to operate with' (I know, I'm terrible!)

I noticed that too!! They've done that before but they usual mention in the ep that the heating ain't working or summat similar. I liked last nights episode, the flashbacks confused me a little bit at times. Thought it was funny seeing them trying to change the characters when they did the flashbacks.

I fell asleep in the last part so I completely missed all of it. What happened? So what went on with Abby and James Wood's character?
