There is definitely a season 13 (they've already filmed, or are filming, the first two episodes) and there is an option for a 14th season, although that isn't certain to be picked up.

I thought they had a contract for season 14 already...
With it's current cast it is doing quite well so I would be surprised if it was cancelled now.

I heard there was serious discussion about moving it to another night in the US , because Thursday night is reserved for the top shows and ER is going down in the ratings, especialy this season, but I don't think there's any talk talk of finishing it yet except among ctitics writing in US magazines. I haven't heard of any official plans.

Although ER's ratings are slipping in the US, isn't it still one of NBC's best rated shows? AEB has a thread about the ratings, it looks from that as though 'Deal or no Deal' and 'Law and Order: SVU' are generally the other two NBC shows around/above ER in the ratings. NBC isn't exactly topping the ratings tree, I think, and ER is still one of their biggest shows. If they're planning to move ER to another night, they're going to have to come up with something good to put in it's slot if they're looking for ratings winners.

Any news on GV, is 13 still his last season as far as we know ? Considering that they are already working on 13 surely the writers should know if he stays for one more or if he is really going.
thanks dani

Yes it's a huge problem, because CBS is beating them hands down on all its prime time shows on Thursdays. It isn't just ER. They can't find a really successful comedy to replace Friends, which used to be on before ER. This doesn't mean that ER is bad, just that it isn't new and US audiences want newer stuff. Also since the arrival of digital TV, no show gets as big an audience as ER used to in its hey day, again nothing to do with the quality of the show, but a sign of the times. The West Wing, John Wells other baby, is going and even HBO shows which rely less on mainstream audiences rarely last more than six series (Six feet under, The Siopranos etc). That's just how it is. European audiences, including the UK, may react differently, but I don't hasve figures for those. Does anybody???

I think you can get the UK figures here. (I remember cos Barb is my mum's name, lol.) quote: What is Deal or no Deal?
You asked for it... There are 22 contestants, each has a numbered box allocated to them before the show starts. One person is chosen to play each time. The remaining contestants stay with the show until they get their chance to play, so the line-up gradually changes over time, rather than having all new people each day. The chosen player sits up at the front with Noel Edmonds/whoever the host is, and has to pick from the other boxes to be opened, in batches of 4 boxes per round, I think. Each box has an amount inside, ranging from 1p to £250,000. There's an equal number of high (in the thousands) and low (up to about £500) amounts. The idea is to find and eliminate all the small amounts from the game, and keep the large amounts in play. After each batch of boxes is opened, the 'banker' rings up and makes the player an offer for their box. The size of the offer is made depending on which amounts still remain in play (eg if there's £75,000 and £250,000 in play, they'll be offered around £125,000, whereas if £50 and £3000 are in play, it'll be maybe £800 or something). The player has to decide whether to take the deal and risk there being a larger amount in their box than they have accepted from the banker - or to not deal and continue eliminating boxes for another round, which may leave them with very small amounts in play and a much smaller offer from the banker. Then again, it may make the next offer bigger. It's all down to chance, there's no actual system to winning it - they just have to make the right deal at the right time to beat the banker.

Thanks M. I couldn't find ER as it's not in the C4 top 30, which is dominated by "Deal or No Deal" Can't stand Noel Edmonds, never could. He's so smarmy, but I suppose a lot of people like these types of programmes which pretend to be games of skill, but are really just gambling jazzed up a bit.
Last weeks AP figures in the states gave ER as 20th for the episode "No place to Hide", but only 32nd Place for the season overall. CSI and House and stuff like that are much higher on the list than ER. Personally I'm getting bored with CSI, but it's still popular. I'm not sure if ratings should influence how we feel about a programme, but they do affect what happens to their future, so ER does need to watch out, if not next season, then certainly, for any future after that.

Obviously, ER will never be as good as it used to be, in the Clooney days every one was a gem. But it is still incredibly popular and it has an enormous fanbase, it is also one of those shows that could last a long, long time. Although as Ray said "All good things...." that's quite fitting here I think!

From what ive heard the next season of ER will more than likely be the last. NBC are keeping it for the moment in its thursday night slot in America which is a mistake because ABC are moving Greys Anatomy to thursday night in direct competition with ER. Pitted against that program then its ratings in America will fall further Also, NBC are only showing the first 13 episodes from sept to dec then they go on hiatus as usual but this time the remaining episodes wont be broadcast until april sometime, in USA. Thats 4 or 5 months, a whole new series will take its place on the thursday night, instead of the ER reruns they usually have at that time. This also means that we probably wont get to see ER over here until later on than usual, because if Ch4 show it as usual from Jan then they would finish the first 13 episodes a month or so before the rest even start in USA and i cant see them wanting to take a break halfway through the season and have to fill the time up with something else, but you never know. Personally i hope it doesn't end, as i love it and i cant wait 4 sundays finale MEMBER #2 OF THE SCHUMCHER APPRECIATION SOCIETYWe're gonna miss u Schumi Thanks Schumi IMO 'weird' people are the individuals who percieve other people as being weird because they are in fact, just different

I've watched ER since season 1 on channel 4 and wouldn't be suprised if NBC decide to call it day. The show hasn't really been the same since Dr Greene died but every season has it's great episodes. This season was ok but there wasn't outstanding eps and even Carters story wasn't really that good. If ER does get cancelled then I'd prefer it go out with a audience of 12 million than dwindle to 2 million It should be go out being remebered as great show that ended well and not a great show that ended badly.

I know this msg is a bit o/t but after seeing all this msgs about ER's popularity, how this season's viewing figures have gone down hill etc.. I had a quick look at the UK ones and I can't believe how out of touch I really am. I knew it was bad but not that bad, apart from the news I can count the programmes I occasionally watch on one hand. I have never seen an episode of the most popular shows such as Deal or No Deal, Big Brother etc... Also the Eurovision Song contest watched by 8.33 m viewers?? Well all I can say about viewing figures is thank god there are some unpopular shows like ER out there for simple souls like me... Gosh, I'm feeling really old now.

When you look at some of the newer shows such as Lost, Supernatural and others then ER's viewing figures in the US are still very good. I'm sure if it was on BBC 1 in the UK then it would have watched by 9 million or so It still is a popular show in America but it's just the number 1 show anymore, I think Lost is new king of TV atm and it deserves because it as good as ER was in it's Anthony Edwards, Noah Wyle and Geogre Clooney day

Danielle I totally agree, I dont watch any TV apart from ER and CSI and I for one am glad it is still on. I do think though that this season has been amazing, not quite up to the good old days (but what ever can live up to the good old days?) but it is much improved from the last 3/4 series. If it carries on this way I can see the ratings going back up. I sincerely hope they do not start it later that jan/feb in this country. bah-USA!!!! It has ALWAYS started at the begining of the year, something to look forward to after christmas and to warm us up on those dismal dreary winter nights. Where can we find viewing figures for the UK im interested in looking at what each prog gets cos I think most tv is overrated, apart from ER and CSI of course!!!
