Sorry!! That should have been 5th and 6th choices.

Yeah, I was talking to my brother about my other two choices because I wasn't really sure what I'd put. I'm tempted to put something completely unrelated to Medicine, though. Or just closing my eyes and pointing. I don't know what I'd do if I didn't get into Medicine right away, honestly. I can't see myself taking BioMedical Sciences or anything like that, though, because I would always feel it was my second choice and my heart wouldn't be in it. I know that it would then be easier to doing a postgraduate degree in Medicine afterwards, but I can't do something I didn't fully want to do for 3 years. I know I've got to fill up my choices though - so that I can go through clearing if I need to. ******************************************* *** Hector the disgruntled tortoise was actually quite a happy tortoise until he was hit by a bus *** Honorary Member of the Hector Fan Club

Well it's up to u really - you could do them with science related topics or non science ones. It is a tough decision though, i know. Akee Fruit - you thought about doing post grad medical degree? Oh and well done last night LJ - 3 points, same as me. It was nice to talk to you again anyway.

Loads of ppl from my school are going to Sheffield, including me if I don't get my grades for Oxford (although AAB at Sheffield is hardly failsafe insurance.....), and I know someone who's going there to do medicine. Best student union in the country (so I'm told), and the city is really student-y what with having Hallam as well, so I reckon it would be a good choice!! (Plus there's Meadowhall shopping as well!) Might be a good idea to apply for something completely different, as if you don't get accepted for medicine you might not find bio-medical etc. as fulfilling as you want. I'd say go for something else that really interests you as well, as I have a friend who got all A's last year, had loads of experinece, and still didn't get offered a place!! (despite apllying to mainstream places, e.g Brighton) I'm sure you're already aware it's really competitive, but in my opinion it's a good idea to have a back-up you'd be happy settling for!! Macbecky, my French teacher was telling me last week that the French listening was 'solid' (think she was talking bout Short Course), sometimes they do seem to come up with really tough ones, but that usually means a lower pass mark, as everybody will have found it difficualt, so don't despair!!! Hopkins, not too bad, not too bad, but stressing over exams and necessity to get AAAB! Hoping everything works out and I can be very happy at uni, plus looking forward to an awesome summer of Holidays and festivals!! I'm oddly happy to be back here dicussing exams with ya all .... (reminiscing over GCSE days..... ) xxx

Thanks !! Law and French law, (hardcore, I know!) or law and French at Sheffield. Kind of up a creek if exams are nasty, so fingers crossed!! 3 down, 7 to go.....

That's true...I should shut up really! And I don't even have an unconditional offer so I should defo shut up! I can't believe it's almost been a year since I started UCAS-ing! I found it to be complete hell! Mainly 'cause I had no idea what I wanted to do....and even less idea of where I wanted to go! I applied for a very wide range of courses and universities and....Lol...and I took me until about 2 daus before my deadline to actually accept one! But what finally made me do it was the advice someone gave me....All I can say is just do what YOU want to do, be selfish...because it's you who'll have to live with it for 4 years! Good luck to everyone!

i also did a postgrad course at greenwich uni which is such a nice area!

I'm at Swansea - doesn't have undergrad medical school, only post grad, but its cheap and though it rains quite a bit in Winter, during last week when it was really nice weather, the beach is literally on the doorstep of Uni (Uni, then main road then beach), and location is cheap too. And nice area.

Well we had talks about this kinda thing today. I think I may try for Cambridge. Also, Brighton and Sussex Medical school looks very good. I don't know about my other two medical places though. I may decide I love Nottingham after going to Medsim this summer, though - I don't know. ******************************************* *** Hector the disgruntled tortoise was actually quite a happy tortoise until he was hit by a bus *** Honorary Member of the Hector Fan Club

St Edmund Hall-The whole college application thing-y for Oxford and Cambridge is all rather confusing, as obviously not having studied there it's veruy difficult to work out the differences and what would be best for you! They all like to give the impression they cater for all tastes, which do a certain extent I'm sure they do-I found 'unofficial' student guides the most helpful (e.g Virgin, etc.) on giving a little feel of the college. Essentially it's a bit of a lottery, and as they say, I'm sure most people would be happy and make the most of wherever they end up. You can make an open application too if you're very confused, in which case they'll assign you to one. What are your thoughts on Cambridge?

I have no idea about Cambridge - I've just heard it's probably better suited to Medicine. I was considering Oxbridge, perhaps, just to see if I could. And my brother's at Oxford and, as much as I like him, I don't want to be running into him in the town - he wouldn't like it either. It'd be weird. I'm looking through them now and it's really hard to tell them all apart - I don't think there's anywhere I'd particularly hate - not just out of colleges, out of anywhere - it's making it damn hard to choose. ******************************************* *** Hector the disgruntled tortoise was actually quite a happy tortoise until he was hit by a bus *** Honorary Member of the Hector Fan Club

Now you have to be aware of Oxford and Cambridge. Of course they are great uni's and probably for medicine they will be good, and I'm sure for Law they are, but for some subjects others unis meet them hands down. Take nursing for example, I dunno if Oxford or Cambridge do it, but there are a lot better places to do it if they do. And other maybe more vocational courses that maybe they offer may be better at other places....but since you're doing Medicine it probably won't matter.

My sister and I were at the same uni at the same time. It was pretty good actually. In fact, we even socialised together. My little sister is now at that same uni too. Its like the family university.

Tell me about it-my brother and sister went to the same one, but as one left, the other joined. I can assure you, those two certainly wouldn't have been joint socialising!!! No way was I gonna go there after that though!!

Oh yeah - no it's cool - I get on really well with my brother. I go up there sometimes and stay with him, but I wouldn't want to go to his uni. I know there are a million different colleges, but we both reckon it'd still be weird. Anyway, out of the two, Cambridge is more geared towards Medicine than Oxford is. Hell, I don't even think I'd get into to either of them, but I'd wonder if I didn't try... ******************************************* *** Hector the disgruntled tortoise was actually quite a happy tortoise until he was hit by a bus *** Honorary Member of the Hector Fan Club

Hopefully, I'm going to Luton...everyone looks down their noses at the place but thats just sheer ignorance. For what I want to study it has some of the best facilities in the country, and Ive been there and really liked it

What to study? And I don't think Luton is a bad uni - never been, but go where ur gonna be happy - have to spend at least 3 yrs there so may as well go somewhere which you like otherwise you won't enjoy it and then might not do as well as u would like, whereas if u like it ur ok.
