Since season 10 ER has been on a downward curve. I thought Season 11 was pretty average. It was only the inclusion of some "stand-out" episodes that saved it.
Season 12 has been dreary. What have been the stand-out episodes??? Nothing immediately springs to mind - oh, Neela & Gallant get married (hardly a highlight, seeing as Gallant has to go back to Iraq), and er Dcoctor Vic and his troubles, and Kovac & Abby (+1). Archie & his "kids" was kinda cool - but that was just a throw-away bit of light relief.
Someone please remind me what has been so good about Season 12?? Because for me Season 12 has been the worst one.
i luvved season 12 because of the whole abby n luka stuff...i've always wanted them together, so this was a real good season in my opinion... i dont think its gone downhill at all..i just like it because i like it basically!..lol
ER has always been flippin brill..and it still is in my opinion
I didn't think season 12 was thatbad, in fact I thought it was a huge improvement on seasons 10 and 11.
Well yeah Kerry got rid of her crutch. Some of the Africa episodes were ok. Vic got shot then there was all that jodie stuff. We had a bit of humourous light hearted Abby - and even more shocking a happy Luka. And the season finale looks good.

And now, as the playful puppy of time bounds after the toilet paper of destiny, I must leave you...heading towards the U-bend of fate.
only down point for me was too much vic and jodie.
have really enjoyed seeing neela become a bigger character and the same goes for ray and morris. i also like that surgery has become a part of the team again with dubenko and albright.
in the past i have not liked luka or abby very much cos i found them too depressing but now they are happy i even enjoy watching them.
i also really liked season 12 and thought it was better than the previous two. of course the highglights were the abby and luka bits, and teh galeela bits. i actually raelly liked teh addition of vic and i liked seeing morries become a bigger character. i missed kerry in this season which was a shame!

- Remember that, the Beatles were all about love, it's all you need. Peace and love everyone!
I completely disagree with the "dreary" take on things; I think this season has gone a long way to recapturing the pace, the humour and the ensemble feel of earlier seasons.
Anyone who was enormously invested in Carter will have felt his absence, felt that something was missing perhaps, but for me his departure seems to have freed things up.
So what were the stand-out episodes then? No-one has mentioned any. Too much filler, not enough killer.
Mrs Eyre - I disagree with your comment about the "ensemble" feel returning. The main characters are rarely all in the same episode together. Its way too factional: Neela-Ray, Luka-Abby, Vic (on his own), Pratt (on his own).
I like to Eat - That's a lame comment. Please justify yourself.
Of all the members on this board I can't be the only one who dislikes Season 12.
i agree with you actually. Remember the good old days, Clooney in the storm drain, that lady woman under the falling down building. Where's the edge of your seat, wet your pants exciting stuff.
I don't think it's been the same since Mark Green's demise.
Where's the edge of your seat, wet your pants exciting stuff.
Just wait, just wait ...
And I'm telling it like I've seen it and there have been fewer plot/character "capsules" this season. Characters have been allowed to interact with more than one other which I thinkwas a real problem in seasons 9 - 11.

i was on the edge of my seat when neela ran into that burning building and then it exploded!! though must admit i didnt wet my pants!!!

Gee, who stole your Creme Egg?
But if you demand that I justify myself, some stand-out episodes have included Two Ships (which had some brilliant set design at the plane crash scene and gave Neela some real focus), The Human Shield (an extremely emotional episode with some great acting from Abby as well as the commencement of the Luka/Abby relationship) and towards the end of the season, Lost in America (Shohreh Aghdashloo. Need I say more?)
There have been really strong storylines this season (Galleela, Pratt accepting responsibility for stuff, the Lubylet), which explain just how fantastic this season has been compared to recent seasons. Let's take a look at Season 11. Carter and Wendall? Luka and Sam? Ray acting like a fool every episode? This season has been so much better in comparison.
There's my justification. And it's more reasons than you've given for not liking it.

You know I think that "What is it that makes you say that?" is likely to be better received than "Please justify yourself" which sounds just a little arrogant. Just sayin'.

That is not a very nice way of talking to people.
Imo so far S12 was brilliant. I think the writers have done a good job, excellent humor. And remember that when Carter left the writers lost a main character. And even though Carter fans got their fix with the Africa episodes a void in the ER had to be filled. Personally I think they did a brilliant job... The ER was doing just fine without him. Also I don't think it is right to discuss the overall season before the 2 last episodes have gone out in the UK and everyone has seen them. It is not over until the fat lady sings...
I still think the show is excellent tv drama and its virtually the only tv drama I watch.
Let me expand on why I said I haven't liked S12. Its basically to do with 1) not getting want I wanted from the show and 2) the actual events of the show.
1 - Personal expectations: As individuals we all watch tv dramas and want something from them. I was disappointed with three main areas: "community feel" of the ER, mentor/student relationships & male friendships. S12, for me didn't deliver in any satisfying way on these issues. Of course, ER is much more than that, but they are some of the major themes I like about the show.
2) Actual events: - Dr Lewis's exit. I suppose 2 good exits from the show was too much to ask. - Dr Vic. Difficult to like & not bad enough to really hate. An enigma. - Dr Morris. Awful characer development. They use Archie as a "joke" character, when really there is so much potential to develop a more rounded role. Scott Grimes is an excellent actor. - wanted to see Gallant return as a regular. - Neela, underused. - Abby, underused.
S12 just hasn't gelled well together. Not enough of the main characters are appearing together in long runs of episodes - its too pic'n'mix with the characters.
This post contains a few words in white text, unspoiled C4 vieuwers -- Do not higlight pls --
I'm not sure what you mean when you are saying that Neela and Abby are underused.
Neela, a wedding, husband decides that ' no ' he wants to go back to war and gets blown up, great opportunities for her at work, moving out of Ray's flat for known reasons, emergency surgery in the middle of the road, etc ... How much more can a girl deal with in one season.
Abby has just netted the most gorgious male characters on the set and is having his baby. I like Abby and imo the Luby scenes where lovely but there are only 22 epis and they can not pack them all with hormonal scenes. Even though they are fun to watch. As a doctor I don't think she was underused. Body and Soul, Glenda in I Do, The making up her mind scenes in If not now ... Also I think Abby's friendships with both Weaver and Neela were highlighted nicely.

I've been away for a few days, which is no excuse for mucking up the post. I meant to include the above quote by Wendell in my reply. oops! sorry.
Anyway, I couldn't have put it better myself.
I think ER started going down after season 8 when Mark died. It was Dr Greene who held the ER together, but there was still enough to hold my attention in 9 and 10. Less so in 11, but this season has definitely been the worst for me.Not just because Carter has gone. I think he's well out of it, but for the reasons above. No really good medical stories at County, no male bonding, no female bonding, poor scripts, toilet humour replacing wit, unlikely stories and not enough for Neela, Sam and Ray to do. Kerry totally underused, that Clemente rubbish, Morris swinging between being a proper doctor and a total buffoon, Pratt, well apart from Africa I can't remember what he did this season , Oh and endelss, endless, endless Luby
Well I absolutely love Luby... And a lot of the Clemente stuff. I don't think Neela was underused and as far as Sam is concerned the less we see of her and her and Alex the better. I missed Marc when he died. But I think S12 has been the best one in a very long time. I would have liked to see more Weaver but I'm optimistic that we will see more of her in S13 O'wise there would have been no point of losing the crutch.
Imo S12 was great that is why I watched it, because if I thought that it was rubbish then I would have switched my telly on to something else.
