I know this is a random topic (hey, we love those ) But this has been bothering me for a while- What is an actual normal sleep pattern? I'd be interested to know what times people sleep from/to and whether they feel tired etc? For about 5 years now I've had a total inability to go to bed before about 1 o clock then I end up sleeping later and just feeling generally tired and lethargic all the time.. Does everyone normal actually go to bed at 10 and get up at 8 or what?
I think everyone is different. I work shifts so my pattern changes week to week. On my weeks off if I haven't got anything to do I can easily sleep for 10 or 11 hours. But can also work quite happily after 8hours!!
well on a normal school day i will got to bed between 11:00 and 11:30 (about) and get up at 6:15
weekend and holidays i will got to be between 01:00 and 02:00 and get up (depending on how much homework i've got between 10:00 and 11:00
that's my general sleep pattern, sometimes there are variations obviously... i am told that everybody should get between 7 and 8 hours sleep every night... i don't usually hit that mark but when i do sleep i sleep REALLY well. i am lucky i have enver ahd any kinds of problems with stuff like insomnia. i fall asleep pretty quickly and then i'm out cold...

Weekdays, I get up around 8-ish, maybe just before (I don't exactly make a huge effort with hair and make-up etc before I leave the house, lol). I aim to always go to bed on weekdays by midnight, but I often don't go to sleep right away, so I tend to drop off around 1am.
Friday/Saturday nights I often stay up til around 3am or so, and then sleep in til around noon.
I prefer staying up late and sleeping in a bit, it seems to work better for me, and it was what I did while I was at Uni - since most of my tutorials were in the afternoon I could get away with it. I hate getting up in the morning, I prefer shifting things forward a few hours. I still get enough sleep, just at a different time.

Ah, thanks guys...it's good to know I'm not the only one who goes to bed after midnight...I've been trying to sort if out for ages- last week I managed to go to bed by midnight 4 days in a row but the last couple of nights it's been 1/2 am again..meh. M it's definitely to do with my lecture times too! Most of my tutorials etc are in the afternoon so I get away with sleeping in too...it worries me for when I have to start working properly though meh.
it worries me for when I have to start working properly though
Neh, it works itself out, you'll be fine. I've been working for nearly 2 and a half years now, you just have to get into a routine. Making sure you're tired before you go to bed is probably the key, be active during the day so your actually sleepy by the time you go to bed. (Failing that, a glass of red wine always finishes me off, lol )

Good topic Calre, I've been thinking about this too....
I rarely go to sleep before 1am and I get up at about 6:30am everyday for school/work. Generally , I don't need a lot of sleep and that does me fine but sometimes I get really tired in the middle of the day, about 4pm...I always wake up again though after a while ! I know people who could sleep for like 14 hours and still be tired...I suppose everyone is just different!

Something about her, that makes me wanna…love her.

I get into bed around 11pm on weekdays. But don't fall asleep for an hour or so. Wake up between 7 and 7.30.
Weekends, I sleep earlier than I used to. I used to sleep at 2 but now it's often midnight or half past. But ocassionally i'll sleep later. Weekends i'm up around 8 or 9 latest. Woke up at 8 yesterday when i slept at 1.30. And woke up at 7.30 this morning, but only cos i was going out. But i slept at 11.30 so it was sensible.
But I can't sleep for too long. Plus, i'm a really light sleeper so i'll just wake up whenever someone else is up.

my sleep pattern is terrible. in bed at around 1 or 2 always awake by 8 and i wake up throughout the night. and i often go a whole night without sleeping. when i used to start work at half 7 i'd go to bed by midnight be awake for ages and then have to get up at 6 and want to cry! but i can survive on very little sleep

Do you know what happened to the boy who suddenly got everything he ever dreamed of? He lived happily ever after.
I go to bed around 11.30 weekdays as the general rule because the latest I tend to leave for university is 9 with commuting, most times it's earlier though since too many distractions at home (wireless internet! ).
At weekends I tend to go to bed and sleep in a bit later if I'm starting work at 2, not if i'm up at 6.30 as is sometimes the case! It just depends!
I've been quite run down recently though, I think it's just final semester stress.
If left to my own devices i could sleep forever! lol i think my personal best is 17 hours but normally i go to bed around 12ish get up at 8am. but if i can't/don't want to sleep then i can usually survive on a few hours a nite! i find if i sleep to long i then feel awful and have to sort of sleep it off again! if that makes sense. I also find that i always wake up with a headache if i sleep for too long, which is practically everyday lol! maybe thats something else.....
i like to make sure i get 8 hours sleep, so depending on what time i have to get up the next day kinda dictacts what time i go to bed the night before, each day for me is different, like mondays i dnt start col til 2.30 so dnt have to get up til like 12noon, tues i have off, weds i have to be in for 9, have to leave at 8 so get up at 6.45, thursday dnt start til 11 and fridays i have off. at the weekends, because i dont work at the moment, i dont set any alarm, so i sleep til when i want, like today i didnt wake up til 11.20 but was asleep last night by 1am. i dont have any regular patterns, which is probably why im always tired, some nights my head hits the pillow and im gone and sleep right thru but some nights im awake for most of it, i think it has to do with my anxiety state, what kind of day ive had, wot day is coming up etc etc.
i was told that if you go to sleep after midnight the quality of that sleep tends to be less than if you had gone to sleep before midight, i think that is true, i can go to bed at 11, waske up at 6 and feel fine, but go to sleep at 2am and wake up at 1pm and be shattered still.

Yeah my Mum says that- an hour before midnight is worth 2 after aparently. Meh.
I ended up sleeping for about an hour and a half this afternoon- I feel asleep while reading my book- oops. Afternoon sleeps always feel much better than night sleeps though for some reason!
Yeah- some nights I lie awake for absolutely aaaages, I hate it- but I think it's usually when I totally haven't wound down before going to bed and am feeling quite tense. Meh.
Thanks for all the replies guys, really helpful info
I hate it when I fall asleep in the afternoon, cos I always get really confused when I wake up! It always feels like the stuff I've done that morning was the day before!
I usually don't get to sleep until about 2/3am regardless of the day. As I'm at uni I have to get up an hour before my lecture is due to start. So a 9am lecture means I have to be up at 8am, so I'm pretty exhausted all the time!
I often have to nap in the afternoon after lectures, but I try not to, in the hope that I'll get to sleep earlier. But that doesn't tend to happen.
Weekends I usually wake up before 10am, but I try and relax in bed for a while. But I think my sleep pattern is a bit screwy because of depression yada yada yada....
I don't like sleeping during the day! I can't sleep when it's light anyways but it just confuses me and makes me think it's the next day when it's not!

I've been sleeping...well i wouldn't say better, but falling asleep quicker than usual. But the last 3 days, i've been dozing off a lot. On the bus, and just generally watching TV. I never sleep during the day. It's weird.
