One of the "GW Deniers" arguments is that some of the historical temp data from around the world, may not be accurate. It's resonable to assume that the most accurate historical data would be from the US and Europe. I went to the NOAA website and retrieved the annual mean temps of the US for the past 100 years. We've had some warm years recently, but can someone tell me how 1960-1980 fits into the GW CO2 theory?
There is plaenty of data from around the world. For my sins I have 10 years of data from everywhere in the world. It is warmer and the data is significant. However, as the programme said 1960 - 1980 was cooler. The correlation with Co2 was broken during this period.
We need to remind ourselves that evidence of correlation is not evidence of cause and effect. Al Gore forgot to mention this. So the programme made an important observation. It isn't clear whether the CO2 increase is caused by warming or whetehr the warning is causing the Co2 to increase. Only good science can determine cause and effect.
The lead lag question has been around since the early days of the "hockey stick" picture. That question is convienently ignored by the environmental extremists.
