If this forum is the world in miniature, which it isn't, but lets pretend anyway. This is where I am:

I suspected there would be opportunities for sport post the GGWS program and the first thread I read, started by CobblyWorld, did not disappoint. I was firmly in the sceptic camp.

Over the course of the past few weeks, however, I have been impressed by the arguments and presentation put forward by the AGW camp, particularly Steve_M, PodBod, Son of Mulder, Julieef, Shefftim, Mindcrime and others (but not wobbly cobbly) despite some extreme provocation by myself and others.

The sceptic camp however has disappointed. I never thought that I'd find myself in agreement with Phlipper (that font of wit and wisdom) over anything, however there was something about his accusation that I had moved from Green to Greener that precipitated a wave of crystallisation in my mind. He is absolutely right, I have. Phlipper, god bless him, and the likes of Roger58 paint a vision of absolute hell while the Steve_M's paint a picture of hope.

If I don't fully understand AGW and its consequences, one thing is for sure, we are running out of a vital resource (oil) and the population is exploding. AGW may just be the vehicle to scare people s@#tless enough to start taking real action.

For what its worth I will now be arguing for AGW full on in the street, pub, parish council meetings, golf club, workplace, shooting parties, etc at every opportunity.

Roger58 and all the other muppets like you, change is coming whether you like it or not, deal with it.

Mr Durkin, you are also rejected as just another source of misinformation.

Seaskinreay has spoken, thanks and goodbye!

Whatever gave you the idea that the world is running out of oil? It is not. However, I agree that we should quit our dependence on oil, GW or not. Most of the world's oil comes from countries run by dangerous kooks. It's time to stop making the kooks richer. Whatever it takes--hydrogen, nuclear or whatever, we need to do it like yesterday.

Seskinreay:

Over the years I have gone in exactly the opposite direction.

Started off as a true believer, now am firmly a sceptic (rather than a Skeptic).

My position is probably more complex than many - I don't like being assumed to be in either a believer or an anti camp. I would estimate that mankind has probably been responsible for a proportion of the increase since 1850, but the overall increse has in any event been small. Everything else is speculation based on fallible and incomplete models together with a load of questionable assumptions.

Although he has only recently joined this MB, the person who influenced me most has been LKW (whom I know from other boards, including football ones - he's a Portsmouth supporter and I follow Bournemouth and Southampton)

Nice to have talked to you Seskinreay.

JL, I don't consider myself to be in a "camp" either. Why has LKW particularly impressed you?

No, I know you don't. You're probably more of a "believer" than I am, but you don't just rubbish opposition arguments.

LKW - firstly, he selected an excellent Fantasy Football team last season! Secondly, he has an ability to oversee the various strands of argument, and has a wide knowledge of the literature. Thirdly, I have found many of his lines of thought very convincing and persuasive; particularly those which point out what we don't know and what we need to know.

He has been a regular contributor on many other MBs, and it is from them that I know him.

I know virtually nothing about football, so I don't have a chance do I! Having lived in Southampton and worked in a team of mixed Pompey and Southampton fans, I do know that alliances between the two are a rare thing.
