Dobby has got to get his foot in that door early, he's got an increasingly fuel hungry neighbour.
China don't just want coal, they want oil and gas - that's why they're the main investor in Sudanese Oil. Could it also explain why they seem to have been blocking US backed UN action on Dafur?
Mmmm...

June Floods, July Floods, Soggy August.
Elsewhere in the real world, 115degs in Southern Europe, record monsoon in Bangladesh (just as Steve_M predicted), "the Arctic sea ice at its lowest recorded level and with a month of melt left to go, the experts expect the previous record (set in 2005) to be annihilated" (Sunday Times News Review (P3) 19 Aug 2007) and now I give you ......
Hurricane DEAN - stronger than Katrina at this stage of its development and heading for Cat 5 upon landfall (Katrina was Cat 3), heaven help those in its path.
JUST Weather or the product of an overly energised atmosphere??

Well the last post went down well !! Obviously the BAU mob have no answers.
Any views of the proposed £20bn new Thames Barrier? To protect London by 2030.
Why is it necessary if its just weather?
BTW, I do think the government could do itself a favour by publicising the aid its giving to the people of Hull, Sheffield, Doncaster, Tewkesbury, Cheltenham, Gloucester, Worcester and all those towns/villages in between affected by the summer rain events.

Ok. Last year none of the above - the result of weather or an underenergised atmosphere?

So, how about we do something useful with the £20bn. Like clean our hospitals?

Are you suggesting that the people (engineers)who would build the new barrier should be employed cleaning hospitals instead?

Oh, are you suggesting that is what the new barrier is about - finding something to do for the engineers who would build the barrier?

No just the the 2 are not mutually exclusive. But thinking about it as a society we can't keep our hospitals clean so we have no chance controlling the CO2. Run for the hills.

Moi aussi, but incredibily was still nearly caught out by run off from a neighbouring field that was totally saturated. I have a divert into my field which I had to build up during the downpour. The strength of flow was incredible as I stood in the torrent. I can only hope June/July was truely a one off event for the thousands of people who suffered the full effects of the floods. Educate me re MRSA, please.

Unintended consequences of technology - introduction of antibiotics in 1950s has now led to the selection of resistant strains of bacteria. But then, six of one, half a dozen of another - only 75 years ago, people (men in particular) used to die from shaving cuts ( Staph again - that is until they invented the safety razor...)

Yes of course. However, if I ever need surgery I'm off to Holland where I believe MRSA and C Difficile are virtually unknown in hospitals.

Indeed - that's because they spend much more of their citizen's hard earner cash on their health service. We brits are somewhat allergic to taxation...

Your man from the insurance industry has just stated on my radio that the industry is preparing for increasing and consistent flooding due to climate change.
Say what you like about them but they do understand risk.
