A significant connection with climate change and the 2003 heatwave in Europe, focussing on France would have to be made by scientific consensus. Has the IPCC made a strong connection between the heatwave and global warming caused by atmospheric Carbon Dioxide emissions in any of its reports? A strong wind known as the sirocco often blows from the Sahara and could also be involved in this event. Does anyone have any references to published data relating to the humidity during this period that may indicate a significant connection? A scientific study may have been done that investigates this. I am unaware of the published science that other users may be aware of relating to these phenomena, it may predominantly exist in the public domain. It must be noted that this event is frequently used as an omen of future climate change, although the science surrounding the connection has not been confirmed by overwhelming scientific consensus.
If the 2003 heatwave indicated consistent global warming, subsequent heatwaves of similar magnitude would have followed. The link between CO2 and this event is far from certain. What other climate factors could be involved ? I suspect sunspot activity could be a factor. What about the effect that deforestation of tropical rainforest in the Amazon and Congo. That may well have an influence on the weather patterns that develop in the Atlantic. The deforestation in the Amazon has been significant in recent years.
