I have started this post to discuss the show What Makes Us Human, the first part of which was shown on Sat 12/08/06 @ 20:10, as I could not see one started elsewhere. C4 Micro site
I thought that this was an excellent show. Two things that really struck me were the comparison of brain size between a human and a pig. Though I knew that there was a great difference, when you see them side by side in someones hands it really hits home.
The other thing was the excellent explanation of the fused ape chromosomes in the human genetic makeup. Again I knew about this but having it explained the way he did in the show just made it so much clearer in my mind.
Also, I know that it may not be 'politically correct', but the fact that brain size does determine intelligence seems quite obvious to me, what does anyone else think?
I made notes during the programme and video'ed the programme, but, lost the notes and the video has been wiped!
so:
Can anyone re-enlighten me about the gene sequence that is responsible for the dramatic increase in the size of the cerebal cortex that apes do not have
and
the gene(?)/chromasome in humans which has an old form, a new form or a mixture of both.. The programme showed the presenter having a mixture...
I looked at the C4 website but of course, no real detail about the programme...
