I've got two, my own by name and as a sept of Campbell of Argyll. Good thing is that their tartans are pretty different, my own being predominantly red whilst the Campbell's is a green/blue mix. So it gives you decent options depending on the occasion.

Never mind Siberia even mainland Europe gets much colder and longer winters than us. I recall in Germany in 1978 when we went for a run at 7am one fine Oct morning and two guys got frostbite on their earlobes.

Yeah, it probably will be worse for you home counties "woosies". Smile Mind you with all that snow and ice you won't have to suffer hosepipe bans every year, so it won't be all bad. Eek

No probs, for myself I haven't a clue, never looked into my ancestry. My Mum was adopted as a baby so that side would probably be problematic to research, if I could be bothered.

Personally I think we are all a bit "Heinz 57" so what'd be the point. I'm Scottish because I was born there but that's about as far as I take my nationalism or heritage (unless we are playing England, of course Smile ).

I'm not a Gunn directly by name, but my family name was one of the ones created by the Gunns not long after they moved from Iceland. And there are still people with my name in Caithness and thereabouts, just where the original lands were granted by the uber-clan. I'm gradually working to close the gap that I still have in the family history.

In fact our sept doesn't even have its own tartan, so we use that of the Gunns, as well as their crests and mottos. And we pray several times a day facing Inniskirk.

But back to the subject, unless the predictions are way off, those of us in middle age or better will likely not live to see the Gulf Stream switch off, but today's little children might. Nobody really knows how quickly it will happen, but every time they measure ice cap and glacial melting it is faster than what they predicted the time before.

I just read the other day that if all of the ice in Greenland alone were to melt the oceans would rise about 7 meters. That's enough to severely affect most of the major population centers on Earth.

See Venice while you can, at least without scuba gear.
