Yeah, that happened to me once when I entered the Channel 4 Shaggy Dog Story competition and I spent about a month working on it - left my job and everything (though I didn't like that job much, I only got paid 50p an hour and it was stacking meat tins on shelves and there was no one to talk to except this guy Spotty who used to tell me to work faster and I didn't like him much) and I sold my car and my wife threw me out of the house and I ended up living on the streets and people used to throw their used hair at me after they'd been to the barbers and when I finally finished the story I put it in the postbox, having attached a stamped addressed envelope (in case you were wondering it was addressed Inner Meat Tin, Inner Meat Tin Sin Bin) and then I waited a while but never heard anything from them (a bit like those kids who entered Raw Cuts) and so I got another job and it was better.
