In your school, whenever there was supposed to be a minutes silence in remeberance was there?

In my school we never have one. We didn't have one on 11/9 or on 7/7. It's like our headteacher doesn't care about remembering people and few rooms have clocks in them so we can't time them ourselves.

I don't think they work in schools. Good idea but I don't think they work. Too many noisy people cannot control themselves not to talk or snigger.

They taught me nothing. I already knew how to be quiet for a minute.

This might sound mean but they just have them all the time now...when I was at school late 60's through to late 70's we NEVER had a minutes silence for anything...

I really can't remember but I'm sure we must have.

I do think schools should try to have them just to try and install some kind of thought and compassion to some of the kids who do care about world happenings and news around them.

We held a minutes silence a few day after 9/11 happened, a girl in my class just burst into tears and left the room.

I don't do minutes silences anymore because there is no meaning behind them.

When minutes silences were only granted to the fallen in the world wars then there was a meaning to them, and there was a general sense that we were remembering something very important… but in our current culture where everything is sensationalised we seem to have minutes silences for everything… if the PM’s dog died they’d try to make us stand still and grieve for a while; it is such acts that devalue what should be an important occasion to remember who we are and who we have to thank for it.

We had minutes silences and in primary, they worked, all but the odd cough/sniffle Razz
In secondary, they didn't work as good, I seem to remember teachers finishing them early, as if there was no point, to get on with their lesson Red Face And i'm sure the cleaners didn't stop cleaning with their massave, noisy cleaning-majiga's (Razz) anyway.
