We used to sing of a huge hymn sheet in assembly on a Friday morning. My favs were (even tho I used to mime)Don't know the real titles:
1) When a knight won his spurs in the stories of old.
2) Who put the colours in the rainbow? Who put the salt into the sea? Who put the cold into the snowflake? Who made you and me? Who put the hump upon the camel?

aaahhh this is great, i had forgotten all about school, it was such a long time ago!! (I'm 21!)
I remember singing "in henry's happy hairshop you will always see, your hair looking shiny as can be, when the customer arrives you hear the doorbell ring, and reach for the shampoo and start to sing, hubble bubble hubble bubble whoosh whoosh..." etc that was the best (in nursery and infant school though!) and also "nobody loves me, every body hates me, i'm going down the garden to eat worms, long thin slimy ones slip down easily, short fat fuzzy ones stick in my teeth..." or is it just me who sang weird songs???
When Jonah fell into the sea He closed his eyes and prayed Dear lord I'm very sorry That your word I disobeyed If you will only come and rescue me I'll worship your command Instead of treading water Let me tread upon the land
Go down Jonah, deep in the ocean Go down Jonah, far from the shore
Especially, 'When a Knight won his Spurs' and 'The Ink is Black ...'. I would have been about 8 singing those, and I used to really enjoy school - but I learned. That school was a village school and didn't even have a uniform it was so small .. Bless. I loved it. There was another song we used to sing and I know it had the line 'speedwell blue' (a flower I think) in it.
We also sang a song I bet no other school ever did! It was apparently an Eskimo song called 'Ockie Tockie Unga'!!
In fact, it is amazing some of the songs you learn, there was another we sang called 'Tiptoe'. I loved that song but have never heard it since.
aww christmas songs aww when we use to sing we wish u a merry christmas evey1 use to get told off for say wishhhhhhhhhhh like that so we was never aloud to sing it enymore !!
I’m surprised we are still allowed to celebrate Christmas in England, before too long it will probably be deemed offensive and we will be told to convert to Ramadan or something.
totally agree with you and was amazed in my places where i work staff had to take down st georges flag as considered racist,,,i our own country...well the great has long since gone

In nursery in 1962 we used to sing about a golden nutmeg tree and a silver pear.
" I once had a nut tree and nothing would it bear but a golden nutmeg and a silver pear"
We also used to sing along with Miss Ward on piano to the 45 records (red vinyl as I remember) one called "Little black sambo" where he chased a lion round and round a tree until it turned to butter. In senior school from 1969, I had to put up with Puppy Love and Long haired lover from Liverpool, true classics, not.
"Any fool can criticize, condemn and complain - and most fools do" Benjamin Franklin "Some cause happiness wherever they go - others whenever they go" Oscar Wilde
You are the only other person in the world who seems to remember Ockie Tockie Unga - but can you remember the words? I can't. We sang it at my school too, which was also a village school (in Scotland) - maybe it was the same one....?

Okki tokki unga Okki tokki unga Hey miss a day miss a doh miss a day Hexa cola misha woni (x3) etc.... Think this is an Inuit traditional song. It has great actions!
Hated Morning in Broken.... remember when I was teaching at a school earlier this year and a riot nearly broke out when the kids were made to sing it... didn't blame them felt like rioting myself
