How do teachers cope in the classroom these days and how do pupils learn anything? As a newcomer to Britain and as someone who went to school in the days when they had clear discipline and even caning, it is distressing to compare that to what is happening here and now. It was much easier on the teachers then and one could learn things in relative peace and also without fear of getting shot or stabbed. Weapons in schools were unheard of and not tolerated. Surely the damage to the teacher, and between pupils and to their education is a lot less than the pain felt on unruly students backsides. And it's so much easier to concentrate on the lessons then too.
WE DO THE JOB WE HAVE TO DO AGAINST ALL THE ODDS. I WORK IN A 'CHALLENGING' SCHOOL AND CAN SAY THAT NOT ALL THE KIDS ARE OUT TO GET YOU. THERE ARE MANY FANTASTIC AND COOPERATIVE KIDS IN THE SCHOOLS THAT ARE DESIGNATED 'DIFFICULT' BUT OF COURSE THIS DOES NOT MAKE FOR GOOD TV, SO WE DON'T SEE THIS SIDE. OF COURSE THE OTHER SIDE OF SHOWING A CHALLENGING SCHOOL DOING WELL IS THAT YOU ARE SET UP AGAINST OTHER SCHOOLS. EVERY SCHOOL IS DIFFERENT, KIDS ARE NOT MADE TO A PATTERN, NEITHER ARE ADULTS, NOR TAECHERS. THERE IS NO CLEAR FORMULA FOR SCHOOLS, HOWEVER, MORE SUPPORT AGAINST LITIGIOUS/AGGRESSIVE/ LOUDMOUTHED PARENTS WOULD HELP. WITHOUT THIS ASSISTANCE FROM THE DFEE SCHOOLS , GOOD PUPILS, GOOD PARENTS AND DEDICATED TEACHERS ARE AT THE MERCY OF THOSE WHO DENIGRATE EDUCATION
shouting is out of order in most public schools.Students will be self-reliant people of sound character who have highly developed academic, communication and life skills to succeed in their own lives while contributing to the well being of their communities.

I also was educated in the days of strict discipline in all schools - state and public. After going to a state junior school I moved to a Public one at 11 as a day boy. While many of the state schools seem to have degenerated as far as discipline is concerned, my old school (I still live close by) still looks well run with the youngsters looking smart and of good behaviour. I think it is easier for the indipendent schools because the parents of the pupils back the school's discipilinary methods whereas in many schools these days the parents back the kids when they are in trouble!
Oh yeah, it’s always fat chav parents from council estates going into school to complain to the teachers that their ‘innocent’ kid was “not doin’ nuffin wrong”, and “why you picking on ‘em again!” Then you get the rubbish about them knowing their rights… if that’s the case then it’s probably the only thing that they do know.
What do pupils have to cope with then? There is nothing to worry about at school apart from dodgy food and boring maths lessons. Whereas the teachers have to put up with annoying prats that are convinced of their own importance, all day every day.
