My young sons locker was broken into during school hours, and his new football boots, trainers and boot bag was stolen, however the teacher seemed to think it was a mistake and asked me to wait until monday to allow for them to be returned, after this time if they havent been returned I will be reporting the crime, but what I want to know is can I claim from schools insurance as I cant afford to replace them and wont on principle

my kid got a pe kits stolen in school too, it's so annoying as it was brand new.

If it can be proved as theft then you should be able to make a claim from the school's insurance - but it will take a while and won't be easy; they will wriggle out of it however they can.

How does the teacher think this was a "mistake"? Are you sure your son's locker was locked?

perhaps the teacher has an inkling as to who is resonsible and is gonna give that person a chance to return the items by monday and then if they havent done so it will be classed as theft. hence the 'mistake'. once at school my son had his squash raquet purposedly broken by another lad. He reported it to the teacher and the other lad readily admitted the damage. Teacher said he had to replace it and the lad did, cos his family were well off and money wsnt really a problem so a result .
