You know the debate about 'A' levels/University places being easier to get these days?

Anyone seen the twins/university students/future social workers?

Anyone worried?

The twins are two of the most lovely people ever to appear on a reality and I hope they win. As for being social workers I am not sure.

Sorry that you feel that education in the UK is inconsequential DD. Maybe it is the reference to BB that got your goat!

The twins are lovely, for 12 year olds, but as university students who in a few short years will be working as social workers, I can't get my head round it!! Although really sweet, they are stunningly ignorant and it just amazes me that people with such a limited idea of anything can be in university, and they must be typical of lots who are in our revered seats of learning!!

Sorry Roth, I was only using these two simpletons as an illustration of what worries me about education today and makes me believe that we are in trouble!

Hmm, it wasn't so long ago that you were extolling the virtues of text-speak, Rothgar. If I recall, you said it was a most excellent method of communication and anyone who thought otherwise was behind the times.

I did think it was funny though, the twins and Brian trying to fathom how the moon is seen by everyone, even Australians, who live "underneath" us. They decided it was because the moon must be bigger than the earth.

I'll go to the foot of our stairs.
I think that's what they say up North, as well as "trouble at t'mill"!
I said that text speak was a different form of communication and very efficient for its purpose.
It was not to be confused with English.

I must admit Amanda, those twins are very sweet-natured girls, very likeable - except it's been hard to decipher their twinny-speak. But yes, to think they're at university, some of the things they come out with. Not knowing all sorts of basic stuff, basic knowledge.

My point exactly. To not know what the Universe is or what naive means and with the thousands of yawning gaps in their knowledge of very basic every day concepts and language, their ignorance is staggering. And, I am afraid, not unique

One contestant had not heard of William Shakespeare.
(I don't watch BB)

Richard said something very sensible some time ago.
Talking about a male's mid-life crisis and chasing etc. a young girl, he said that the man would lose interest in the girl after 5 minutes because she would know nothing and have nothing to say.
BB bears this out, IMHO.

How would Richard ever discover this? He'd be the one talking for the first five hours. Big Grin

Brian. Methinks he might have been putting the thick act on a bit. I don't believe anyone can not have heard of Shakespeare, even if you don't know the plays.
