Appreciate that Richard & Judy are not the brightest people in TV, but would have thought their bosses at Ch4 could have told them that showing a video clip of a chimp performing tricks is offensive to most of us. The idiot presenting it even said it was a good way to make chimps more interesting at the zoo – what planet is he on?

It's one feature of R & J I find distasteful - this constant and regular laughing at, and mocking animals, all for a cheap laugh.
Remember that degrading competition about dressing-up animals?
The fact that grown-up people indulge in this is very depressing.

I watched in sheer wonder the bull frog in the David Attenborough programme last evening.
We can treat the animal Kingdom with dignity.

I do love these fragrant nosegays of memory you gift us late at night. They are strikingly brief, and yet, in some strange and beguiling way, so suggestive of longer, richer, tales told by an F. Scott Fitzgerald style of character, like Jay Gatsby reclining in a leather chair one summer evening and recalling that fateful day when he first encountered Perso the psychic lemur at Linton zoo.

Couldn't agree more.

I assumed considering their English, privileged, relatively well-informed existence they would naturally have an appropriate empathy for other sentient beings and their correct treatment at the hands of the human species in power but apparently too ignorant. Don't they see the sickness of it?

Like when they had the deformed duck born on a duck farm with four legs "Stumpy" as a "guest" and Richard, watching it drag it's extra legs across the floor getting them pecked at by other ducks said "Well, it seems to be getting around alright".

Considering the myriad of issues in the world today concerning loss of habitat and extinction that are begging for publicity and feature beautiful watchable animals such as bonobos who display human behaviour NATURALLY for the blatent reason that they evolved similarly, why can't Richard and Judy make use of their status in some meaningful way by having a section on real wild animals featuring donation lines rather than clips of captive ones acting like humans for the amusement of sub-human human idiots. What a waste. Pathetic.

Well said, Greenbottle.
The sheer waste of a potential platform for good is quite staggering.
But infantile mockery - babies gurgle at stuffed pink elephants - represents money in the bank, as does laughing at the Japanese.
I doubt whether this Forum penetrates anything.

the handsome big red/brown orangutang arose from his resting place and sauntered towards another orangutang resting on a blanket. My big guy gently nudged the other off the blankie and grabbed if for himself.

He then toddled over towards me as my heart kept beating faster. He eyed me up and down and then turned round walked over to his earlier place and spread the blanket down and lay on it.

Actually I think I recognise it as an exerpt from a women's fantasy book by Nancy Friday that gets decidedly less edifying as it goes on. Imagine people reading stuff like that! Me? Purely research of course.

YIKES!!

..and. for me, people who delight in watching a cat falling into a bath and struggling out, terrified, are as stupid and cruel as someone who ties tin cans to a cat's tail.
Cats hate water.
I could not believe that clip was aired.

I watched in sheer wonder at the care the mother crocodile lavished on her creche of baby crocodiles in last night's Attenborough.
(yes, I know, instinct, survival instinct)
We can treat the animal Kingdom with dignity.
