I would like to hear views on who should replace Des Lynam. I really hope they give it to Tom O'Connor. He is good clean fun and as an ex maths teacher he could be the one that finally gives Carol a run for the money!

Let me know your opinions?

Des has done such a great job - what a shame he won't be staying. I really like him, he has an old fashioned charm and is just saucy enough to be good fun - the oldies in the audience just love him!

Maybe that's why he gets me tittering then..... Wink

Oh - a replacement. Is this a 'dream team', throw-it-in-the-ring scenario?

How about reincarnating Ted Rogers? He could do a fast finger shuffle, and confuse us all - even Carol.

Yerrwahhh????? Confused Big Grin

...and yerwah - is a pretty versatile, Countdown kinda word - eminently adaptable - it can even use up all of the letters.

I think you will find that it was a disgruntled employee who decided to make a story and the papers settled. He is still one of the few honest and hard working people in the business. I live in Berkshire and he does so very much for the local charities. Anyway this week has been an absolute joy to watch.

Has anyone any other ideas (apart from our Ogrady). Lets start the debate.

We do want to be entertained in the afternoons!

Personally I did my bit for 50 years. So no is the answer.

I don't even live in the UK which puts me in an ideal position to pass comment on a lot of the things I see going down the plug hole.

Being presumptuous, again, Occ. Vis?
I could well be an On-Line Trader, working from home.

Well, if you've managed to swing it so you're at home in the day without being a burden on the state, then good on you Wink

If you're managing this in another country then even better, Ron W Cool

I'm very envious Wink

It is a shame that Des is going, although I never felt he was particularly comfortable in the role as presenter of the Countdown show.

I think Tom O'Connor would be great - he's a bit cheeky and great fun. Wouldn't mind Des O'Connor either, but what about The Great Suprendo (sorry can't think of his name, but was/is married to Victoria Wood). He was always so good on the show and very entertaining.

If you're such a fan of Geoffrey Durham, it's a pity you can't be bothered to know his name.
Yes, I agree, he would be very good, provided he leaves his awful wife at home.
She doesn't tell jokes, she "proclaims"....
Something odd about her delivery, IMHO

What's even better is that Gordon Brown very kindly sends me the Winter Fuel Allowance.

Hi Occ. Vis Smile
I don't much care for the "..good on you.."
I don't approve of such an attitude.
There are people receiving my taxes by ripping off the Benefit system.

Hi Ron Smile
You hardly need that in Spain, there should perhaps be a "climate check" before it's dolled out.

Isn't he 90 years old?
Whoops, forgot, ageism is now enshrined in law!
As long as he doesn't bring his dreadful sidekick!
