Richard and Judy recommended books will soon be "A" level texts.
Great news!!
I hope now my 25 yard Breaststroke Certificate will be re-classified as an "A" Level.
Long overdue.

25 yards? You must have long arms. Was it that woman in Ottakers?

Couldn't get two seats together in the back row of the cinema.
So, sat seven seats apart.

I'm sure some of the books on the R&J list would be suitable for A Level texts.

One of the books I did at A Level was "Moontiger" by Penelope Lively which if it was out now might have been in the Book Club.

Not sure what your point is, Rothgar.

Hi Occ Viz Smile
Dumbing down, that's my point.
I just hope they don't oust the traditional canon of Eng. Lit - Shakespear, Dickens, Austen etc.
But my point has now been superceded by two rather more interesting points.

I wouldn't see it as dumbing down, it is just a different style that's all. I agree that it should be as well as the classics, rather than instead of.

I don't know what they do now, but I also did Shakespeare (King Lear and Much Ado About Nothing) and the poetry of Sylvia Plath as well as the Penelope Lively novel. It all made for a good combination.

I hope they do similar now, although these days "A Level Text" could just refer to the exam you can probably take in text messaging. Big Grin

Do they still read books at school? You'd never know it from listening to teenagers.

I doubt it - probably just condensed CD versions followed by one hour of victimology, then one hour
of positivity, ending with group hugs.

(I applaud the pleasure, though, that the R & J books have brought to many people)
