I just heard R&J agreeing with the new government organ donation scheme.

Shouldn't it be voluntary, why should i have to go and register no if i dont want someone to use my body parts when i die, its my body, i own it, i shouldn't have to say no, i should be respected.

Government do not own my body, they are not elected to dictate to us what is right and wrong.

They are useless, they havn't the ability to get us to volunteer our organs, so they dictate instead, im so sad R&J agree with this.

What would you say to someone like the woman on the programme who has been waiting 3 years for a heart and kidney donor?

I don't agree with it becoming Law either. It's personal choice.

If the Organ Donor system isn't working then the Government would be better sending everyone a form to fill in - or online. Then those that want to donate will, those that don't won't. Why should it be compulsory? I don't wish to donate and I don't want unscrupulous Doctors taking advantage of the situation - and there are those that will.

What insensed me was that ignorant Doctor who was on the show who said "to h*ll with them" meaning those of us that don't wish to donate, who under this Law would be forced to donate or opt out.

What survey says 80% of us wish to donate our organs? I'd like to see it. Does it mean 80% are in favour of organ donation or 80% are happy to donate their own organs?

There is alot of presumption going on here. I have strong feelings about organ donation from a personal point of view and that is my right.

Stop taking our rights away.

Well said guys.

I'm sorry but the state does not own my body and has no right to say they are going to dissect me unless I say otherwise.

I really felt for the woman who's been waiting for a kidney and I really hope she gets a donor soon - but I hope it is a donor who is WILLING to donate a kidney. Not someone who is having their organs removed because they haven't opted out!

I am on the donor register but my partner's not. What if something happens to him before he gets chance to opt out - like the day after this legislation is passed? (God fobid it ever is) Is he going to have organs removed against his wishes? Would I have to bury him KNOWING his body was violated (in his opinion?)

If this law was passed it would take us back to the Victorian days!

The advancement of medical science has a lot to answer for...................

I would say, ask someone if they'll voluntarilly donate their kidney, dont be ignorant and expect them to, show some respect.

An analogy to this would be, if we dont spend money making a will, the poor will get our wealth when we die, rather than our family.

Surely theres enough body parts via the re-cycling fanatics.

A better idea would be to go around door to dorr and ask if they have any spare organs.

I didn't understand how this would work should a child die? As they would not have reached the age appropriate for deciding whether to 'opt out' or not.

Heh heh that made me laugh.

Not likely.

As a parent I find the idea of organ donation really difficult to get my head round. Obviously I would be praying for an organ to come available should my son ever need one, however I just can't get comfortable with the idea of consenting to donating his.

Hopefully I'll never face that dilemma.

Very sensible post kay. I can't ever see a law being passed that would allow doctors to remove organs if you did not tick a box.
In fact it is a ludicrous suggestion.

No I'm pretty sure this law won't ever come into action.

I find my double standards regarding donation very uncomfortable. I'd happily take organs to save my son's life but dread the thought of anyone taking his.

I imagine I'm not the only parent who has such an opinion and I think this issue will be one of the significant stumbling blocks for the passing of such an abominable law.

Which would beg the question, why would a government even think about introducing such a intolerant law?

Maybe they dont care about our freedoms, they forced a non smoking policy on us. They could've give pub landlords freedom of choice.

When ignorance comes out of the so-called respectable mouths of Richard & Judy, people think its a good thing.

Are New Labour a communistic authoritarian fascist party?

Confused Think they could be heading that way! Organ donation should be a personal decision in my opinion, not something that should be forced upon us.

Of course, thats freedom of speech, but its a intolerant fascist belief of theirs, that should not be tolerated.

Of course they are.

We are equally entitled to express our opinion here. I'm not asking for R&J to agree with me - in fact if I ever DO agree with them on something I will need a long lie down in a darkened room while back issues of the Guardian are read to me by Stephen Fry.

Think they could be heading that way! Organ donation should be a personal decision in my opinion, not something that should be forced upon us.

It's intersting this debate has been allowed yet the one pertaining to the smoking ban seems to have mysteriously disappeared!

The thing thats interested me the most, is the amount of people percentagedly who agree with me. Have to admit, didn't think it would be so high. Not one single person (on a R&J forum) has defended R&J.

May i not suck up to our hosts Channel 4, but say that in my opinion, they have understood the human right to freedom of speech over the past year.

Im currently full of praise of the moderators here, i find them very fair and commited to helping their forum members.

There goes the thread Wink

Oh BTW, have richard and/or judy appologised yet?

I don't think they have - it has been left to ad-break continuity to mention anything. But I do find it appalling that since the fine, they haven't acknowledged or apologised for their actions. And as executive producers they are culpable.

Richard & Judy - the game is up - time to go!

It seems they don't appreciate free speech.

The 'Interview' thread has been deleted.

There could be legal reasons.
Is anyone about to be arrested?
Will there be a trial?
Will anyone go to prison?
I doubt it.
