I really can't make my mind up. In one respect, I think of how some of my friends used to drive when they first passed and that makes me all for it. But then there's lots of other reasons why it would make no sense what so ever.
I can't see them ever passing it as a law anyway, because imagine how hard it would be to enforce.
hi Binc! i have to agree...it is a great idea and i understand why the 'potential' law is being discussed..but you are right, how would they enforce it? it is like the law regarding using a mobile phone while driving...it is common sense not to do it,..but for those who do, how are they caught out etc....i am not sure... and i think that the thread you are referring to...was deleted as a result of an argument that was going on....not sure.. number 5 of the Paul o Grady Fan club!!! #5 of the mindless crew on the Games forum! there are no strangers here, just friends that you haven't yet met*.*.♥.·:*¨¨*:·.♥•.♥.•°♪°•.♥.·:*¨¨*:·.♥.•°♪°•.♥.·:*¨¨*:·.♥•°♪ °•.♥.·:*¨¨*:·.♥•° ♪°•.♥.•°•.♥.♥.·:¨·.♥

Hi All My pet hate is young (17 yrs) male and female "saxo" drivers. They are very dangerous....so I would welcome some change in the law. I will say though.....the driving test is quite difficult with low pass rates so maybe a compulsary 12 months of lessons and then 12 months probation period might provide the experience any learner needs.

that's true M...i agree with you... i was a slow learner...it took me nearly 2 years, from when i took my theory test..til i took my practical..(and the tests have become more difficult since!!) i was terribly nervous as a learner driver, but once i was out on the road for real, i didn't have the same fears... it was probably because i had somebody in the car watching me..it can be offputting,eh? This is the thing BM - everyone learns at different speeds so it is best to take your time and learn properly.
I think a lot of learners try to pass "too quickly" mainly because of the cost implications. It is, after all, extremely expensive to learn how to drive. Now that young adults may be forced to stay on at school/college until 18 they may wish to put "learning to drive" on the curriculum. They may even consider a GCSE in it! Hee Hee

i think banning people having passengers after a certain time is daft. they will drive just as stupid alone. but they could probably raise the age of when you can start learning. maybe they should do theory tests on people before they start. to see if they seem responsible enough. most young people dont understand how important it is to drive safely
they stole my sig, my lovely sig!!!! Jack&Kate belong - Jate!

hiya M, yes! i know what you mean...learning to drive cost me a small fortune...that's probably why i left it for a few months in between each test! lol! i mean, in the 90s...lessons were costing from about £15 to £17 an hour..these days they are £25!! how the heck, can young people afford the lessons now? apart from the parents...not all parents can afford to do it either...and of course, working to save up for it. themselves...maybe the learning age should be raised a bit... i paid for it all myself..went to work and saved up etc... maybe 'getting to know your car' should be a subject that could be introduced somewhere..maybe not a GCSE..lol! when i did my theory test, 2 years before my practical, i did have to answer questions about the car itself.. these days, lessons and tests are little bit more intense and concentrate on the car itself aswell as the driving.. number 5 of the Paul o Grady Fan club!!!

That's the problem with many driving laws in that the police have to be able to catch people first and then what.....a large fine? Penalty points? Both? We do need to review the driving laws though. I passed in 1991 and have had an eye test every two years since, through my own choice. If I had decided not to have my eyes tested, I can guarantee I wouldn't be able to see to the end of the bonnet, but I would still be on the road....legally. I saw a Panorama documentary recently on the prison sentences for people who have ending up killing someone as a result of bad driving. The derisory sentences passed are an insult and beyond the comprehension of any normal human being. I know that this has slightly wondered off the thread, but I think it's all part of the same problem that we seem to thave the driving laws of yesteryear.

Morning Boysmama I agree with what you said about the driving test too. They should teach some very basic "car stuff" as part of the learning process and I think a go on one of those skid pans would be good too. They should have proper test centres away from the public roads where a whole variety of situations can be tried out. When I was learning, the only reason why I got to find out where the headlights were was because I learnt in the winter. Had I had my lessons in the Summer, I doubt I would have even driven in the dark.

morning OV..how right you are! gosh! i had forgotten about the skid pans! ..my dad was a bus driver,he started driving in London,so i daresay he had a go on a skid pan during his training!..i would love to try it...it is a scary situation to be in and having some previous 'experience' situations as you say, would be a great idea...i was driving down the M3 last night...during some of that awful rain..and it gets a bit scary, especially when other cars are driving too close and spraying from their wheels...of it can't be helped...i just drove a bit slower than i usually do...but i wasn't too bad...it has been nearly 10 years since i passed! but generally speaking, maybe this weather is good driving practice for the learners too! and yes,as i say, i learnt throughout nearly 2 years..so i had the benefit of all the seasons... i wonder what the stats are on young drivers killed in accidents..through not being able to handle the situations.. i remember my dad saying to me once, it is once you have passed your test, that you start learning to drive....how true that is, eh? number 5 of the Paul o Grady Fan club!!!

You can tell how long ago it is since I passed my driving test. It was £1.00 a lesson. Must say I enjoy driving more now than I did just after I passed, even though there's a lot more traffic. Perhaps it's because I've got a lot better car than I used to drive when I was younger (couln't afford anything decent in those days when my children were small). Happy driving everone!

Morning boysmama. It was a little mini which I paid £300.00 cash for but I loved it anyway even though it wouldn't start in the mornings when the weather was damp until my Dad dried the battery with a hair dryer. My second one was a Metro which I liked at the time but I hate them now. Enjoy your day and hope the sun shines on you!!
