I do not understand why "it should be deducted from their paypacket" or to be punished. R&J present the show and, I would imagine, have quite a big say on whose comes on etc.
They surely cannot be expected to handle everything and, as there are several shows with the same problem,it is obviously the fault of the people, or person, who gave the company the right to handle these competitions.
Rothgar, you really do not expect all the presenters of the shows involved to pay the refunds do you?
Hi Chris Richard and/or Judy personally, out of their own lips, announced the line closure 6 or 7 minutes or so before the start of YSWP. They would surely have known that 7 minutes was insufficent time to prepare a contestant. They did this for years on end. Also, the suspect timetabling of the line closure announcement was raised by Amanda on this Forum, and then by me and others. Nothing but unsatisfactory and evasive answers at a time when this Forum was monitored by the R & J office. So, R & J were personally involved in the most important aspects of YSWP, ie the announced timings of the line closure. An acknowledgement of this by R & J would be welcome, not the "not me guv" attitude. Will people ever start to accept resopsibility for what they do or say?
Hi Chris Well, when an Archbishop, no less, does not accept responsibility for what he said, you can hardly expect lesser mortals like Richard and Judy to be any different.

Latterly it may have been that but when I first noticed it Judy or the other one would say "Well no more calls please for you say we pay, we have a player on the line, hello Rothgar!" So you could not even get a fag paper in the gap they left!
I'm ghost writing a book at the mo, so a bit busy - no excuse, I know for not keeping up with the more important things in life, like my friends on the site! I have been having a read now and then though, I couldn't go without you completely!
Many thanks, amanda So, 7 minutes or much less, when the actual contestant was chosen 25 or more minutes before! Worse than I remembered. Good luck with the book.
Many thanks Rothgar! The book is quite strange. It centres around a Korean girl and World of Warcraft. I know nothing about WOW and the chap who I am writing for is doing those bits. Other than that the action is set at Oxford University around the boat race. I am enjoying doing it and it is very good discipline, although a bit all consuming at times!

Thanks OV! No I have not ghost written before. It is good in the way that you are given the brief so no thinking up plots etc. But on the other had when you get into it, you might feel it wants to go in one diretion or another, and of course, that decision is not yours to make!
Does anyone out there have experience of World of Warcraft?

Can't help you with the World of Warcraft situation, all that gaming culture is a mystery to me.
You're right that it must be quite a constraint to have characters that you feel you're getting to know, but have no control over what they do next. Still sounds great fun though.
I started writing a book a couple of years ago with some friends and was relieved when the novelty wore off for them and I could be left to get on with it myself.

I don't know anything much about World of Warcraft, but apparently, millions of people across the world subscribe to it. Isn't it all wizards, orcs, trolls and heroes? I wonder if you have to keep buying the software constantly. And also whether it's mainly young people who are into it. Someone I know in Denmark said that people over 35 can't really "get" it...implying that our brains aren't configured, or something. Maybe like that mosquito thingy.
Yes, SM it is all that. Originally I did not want to do the book until the guy who hired me said he would write those bits, I could muster no enthusiasm at all for that side of it and now I know why, being just tad over 35! They are also supposed to be mightily into it in Korea which is why our heroine is Korean.

Hi Amanda
It started out as an idea to write a radio drama for a local community radio station myself and about five others were involved with at the time. However, after about 6 weeks of weekly meetings we found we had never really got beyond general chit-chat and a good few gallons of cups of tea. The group gradually whittled down until there were two of us left and we then agreed it would be a book with two central characters and we would each write one of them. Therefore it would be a book written from two different points of view.
Several weekly meetings later and I was romping ahead with my character and was getting very frustrated with my friend who had done very little with hers. We agreed I should carry on alone, which I am doing and am at just over 20,000 words. However, I have a (bad) habit of leaving it for about three months before I write anymore.
It's a combination of not being sure if what I am writing is readable anyway and should I get to the end (even though I know how I want it to end) I'm not sure what I do with it anyway.
(I know this is very off-topic, so apologies for that, but as far as I know there is no way I can send this as a message direct to Amanda.)
I suppoose that is the advantage of ghost writing, you are kept at it and of course the plot etc. is not your responsibility entirely. But keep at it, you will feel such a sense of achievement when you get to the end and judging by your writing style on here, I for one would like to read it!

Ahhhhh thanks Amanda
Very kind of you to say so and I will keep at it. Is the book you're writing your first ?
