Just tuned in to watch the programme and Richard was reading the autocue talking about the windy weather and used the word DRAUGHT.
He stopped, giggled, turned to Judy and said "have you seen how they have spelt draught"and stated it had been spelt as an army term which is DRAFT.

I would have thought that anybody who works in television would have the basic knowledge of English and knew how to spell!

Is this person the same who makes the decisions to zapp inappropriate posts? If so, they should be removed straight away and returned to school.

Can you believe this? I can.

It happens all over the place generally and what saddens me is that it is just accepted as par for the course and nothing to get stressed about.

I work with several people who can't spell and the words they can spell are often used in the wrong context, eg there/their.

What happens to such people ? In my experience, they're the ones who get promoted.

Is it any wonder when splling correctly is no longer a requirement in the schools.

Hi, dear Occy. Hug
You only misspell words occasionally, don't you?

The sad thing is that, if you point out the mistakes, you're treated like the most appalling person there is. Make the mistake and you're fine - react with anything other than indifference and you're a disgrace! I really can't understand it. Why are people so proud of not knowing how to spell?

Yes. Another sign of something irrational these days: suicide pedestrians! People seem to walk straight out into the road without looking. At least bad spelling might be explained away as laziness, but why would people risk being run over for no reason? And when a car does have to brake for one of these people, they glower at the car! (I don't drive, so I've no bias here.) Grumpy old man, I know, but this is a such weird phenomenon that never gets mentioned by the media, even though every dodgy dietary story gets done to death. Bring back the Green Cross Code!

I don't think suicide pedestrians are a modern phenomenon (spelling ?) When I was learning to drive I was taught to beware of pedestrains with prams as they always push the pram into the road and then look for cars! It happens all the time......

Hi Amanda,

Isn't it fabulous news! I'm so happy for her family and friends at school.

What a relief for everybody.

I saw his name at the bottom of the forum yesterday, and started a thread to celebrate his return, but that was zapped. And he himself did not post. There is some talk of suspension, according to Rothgar.

I hate it when people use the word your instead of you're and vice versa.
