Thanks R and J for the discussion on feral youth - and reason for it. Thanks for highlighting home office blah blah blah. R and J is one of the only honest programmes - and Channel 4 far better than the sycophantic socialist spin machine [ie BBC]. As for the police - nothing better to do than refer Channel 4 programme on undercover mosques to Offcom - which says it all really!

I really didn't see the mileage in having Raj there.

Why does everything need psychoanalysis ?

To me the answer is simple.

We need more Police on the streets with more powers, who are not afraid to use them. If the Police can't cope, bring in the Army.

They should be rounding up the trouble makers and slinging them in prison and leaving them there for a very long time.

If we don't have enough prisons then build more. They could probably get a few more people in by getting rid of the plasma tellys and gyms.

And before anyone starts bleating that kids who go to prison just get worse, then it's time to make prisons the most toughest and harsh regime known to man. Prison should be something no one should ever want to return to.

I've just seen a guy on the news who had the side of his face caved in and have to have part of his brain REMOVED !!! The thug who did it to him got FIVE MONTHS !!!

We're now paying the price of having a Prime Minister who preferred to try and solve the world's problems rather than those at home.

Can't argue with that.

Probably one of the stupidest and yobbish posts I have ever seen - more like a drunken rant after a night down the the pub.
We have a due process of law, eg evidence, innocent until proven guilty, trial by jury, the Court process.
There is something odd about a proven cheat and a Daily Mail columnist discussing the breakdown of morality.

Remember the disaster that was "Internment without Trial" in Northern Ireland in the 1970's?

Ok, Rothgar, so what would you have done with the offender (we don't use the word criminal it seems anymore) who got five months for inflicting injuries on someone, to the extent where the victim had a part of his brain removed ?

Hi Occ Viz Smile
Would you, please, post the source of your report about the criminal who got 5 months for what sounds like a pretty gruesome attack.
Thanks.

This was mentioned during a report on ITV's 6.30 news last week (Thursday I think), so can't "back it up" as you would wish.

However, maybe you could suggest what you think is a suitable outcome for this one ....

It is only vague and unsuppported if the guy ITV was interviewing was making the whole thing up - I know what I heard when I saw the news report.

My question, Lord Justice Rothgar, is what would you do with the guy arrested in Bolton ?

Is it a case of let's all feel sorry for him and send him to the carribean for two weeks ?

Or what you take a tougher approach and only send him for a week ?

I don't know why you have to insinuate that my postings are just drunken ramblings.

For the record, I rarely drink and had one beer after work on Friday and nothing alcoholic since. I'm stone cold sober.

You, Rothgar, also seem to have the (wrong) impression that I am very right wing. Up until recently, I was a member of the Labour Party and have even stood as a candidate for them in local elections in the past.

The reason why I am wanting a much tougher stance on crime is because there is no justice anymore. None at all. The centre ground of politics has become so crowded that NOTHING ever seems to get done about anything.

We need a government with a radical agenda and, at this moment in time, I am prepared to consider any of them.

Despite being a life long Labour voter, for the first time ever, my vote is well and truly up for grabs.

Sorry Occ Viz Smile only joking Smile
But the knife case suspect is just that at the moment, a suspect.
I wouldn't dream of commenting on it without knowing the facts.
But, of course, the rise in teenage knife and gun crime is very disturbing.

Yes, Rothgar - you made the error of basing your judgements on OV's posts. Schoolboy error.

Hi Occ Viz Smile
You could try the News Forum - there is usually an interminable debate(s) about this with those at the coal-face, eg teachers, taking part.

The Daily Mail is a very handy tool to beat people about the head with. Smile
Reading back, I did respond to your post about the suspect arrested for the knifing.
As far as stemming the tide of teenage violence and estate yobbishness is concerned, I have the common held view that there should be a more visible police presence, for starters.
