I'm 15. I watched the Japanese film 'Battle Royale' a few months ago (I was actually 14 at the time) and i don't really think the film is as bad as it is portrayed.
I think that the violence is quite bad, but after some of the things i had read about it on the internet, i was expecting it to be a LOT worse.
I think that maybe it has something to do with age ranges. I think that people who are around the same age as the characters in it will not find it as disturbing.

So i was wondering what ages the people who have watched it are, and what you thought of it.

BTW, i thought it was a pretty amazing film! Smile

I think it is a lousy film. Not half as violent as people claim and with such poor characterisation that I found it impossible to give a rat's @rse what happened to the kids.

for people who liked the first film (so not you Lord Moloch), what do you think of the second, i've not seen it yet and was wondering if it was worth buying

I have only seen the first half or so of the second one, and it seemed okay. Not as good as the first one, but still good.

I don't know what the second half is like though....

i bought it on DVD coz someone told me it was gruesome and really good. the storyline and idea is okay, but i didn't find it gruesome at all, didn't look realistic enough to take seriously

Do not, I repeat do not bother with the second one.

My lord is it pants and forget a lack of characterisation, this script was so bad that not even some inventive deaths could save it.

i agree singularity the second one takes itself too seriously, too much talking not enough action. The best part is when they are going on the island in the boats, i wish the rest of the film lived up to this

The second one was awful. The political mesage was rammed down your throat America is bad. The deaths were overly melodramatic. The first was and is a class film (apart from some over the top deaths and acting)

BRII was a huge disappointment, it could've been so much better, the first is brilliant and I recommend reading the book if you're a fan of the film.

I think the book has the same title and it can be bought from amazon.co.uk along with other translated Japanese novels so as 'Ring'.

Battle Royale is one of the best movies ive seen. A lot better than anything i've seen from hollywood. I didnt find it as violent/gruesome as I expected but I found it brutal in a different way because of the kids being forced to kill other kids to survive isnt something we normally see.

BR is a fantastic film, i found that it was not as good as the original graphic novel though!. The Film is brutal but sometimes it contains a dark comedy element to it!

Loved how all the students did their own stunts too!

I loved the film, so much so that I rushed out to buy the book. But I still haven't read it, about 6 months on...

Maybe I should watch it again to get me in the mood.

I LOVED it! Such an AWESOME film!

My brother said the second film is poor compared to that one though.

But everyones different I guess.

(They did all their own stunts? Cool. Smile)

I saw Battle Royale at the cinema when it first came out. Loved it. One scene stroke me. I recognise my 13 year old pupils!! The scene in the lighthouse where a few girls don't want to follow the procedure and decide to be friendly, united etc... They start preparing food in the kitchen. (Probably because it is known that 2 in the kitchen is not a good idea!)Then following a little incident, the tension increases up to the breaking point when a girl takes a gun and etc... I had the same scene in my class! The only difference was that there was no gun about. BUT would it have, then you would have the same scene! No wonder Kitano used to be a teacher. Lots of scenes were very familiar.
