I would actually opt for George A. Romero's 'Martin'.

If we are discussing iconic film murderers, then surely Norman bates must be included?

michael myers must surely be the scariest, nothing happened to him to make him crazy, he was just purely evil. his slow languid walk was also the most threatening. I am so upset that Halloween is being remade. It is a travesty. I didn't hate Rob Zombie until then.

Norman Bates is arguably the most iconic film murderer of all time, so I would suggest yes.If you saw any of the characters listed in your poll then you would run a mile, therefore they do not pose a threat. norman Bates on the other ahnd is dangerous because as you correctly stated, there is nothing scary about him. And Norman Bates of course was based the murderer Ed Geins which certainly does make him more frightening. If you discount Norman Bates then you must discount Leatherface as they were based on the same person.

i agree about michael myers and norman bates definitely, but not jason, i always saw him as a poor version of michael, a man with a mask stalking teens and murdering them. michael had more of a mystery to him, and that connection to the house and laurie which always scared me

I absolutely agree with you about Jason Vorhees. The only decent 'Friday the 13th' film was the original, and Jason didn't commit a single murder in that film. All the sequels were pretty much unwatchable.

No no no and no you both don't get it.

Norman bates is not a worthy serial killer to talk about he prayed on women in the poorest of fashion not a high body count and thats what my poll stand for.

Yes you are right he was based on ed gein but i never mentioned ed gein to be cool or anything he was a weak and cowardly b*****d who again prayed on women.

Leatherface was based on ed gein also but some how he was a bit more respected than bates

Leather mask, chainsaw, Gruesome kills , killed men as well as women

And as for jason voorhees how can he a cheap ripoff of michael myers his mask is completely diffrent , has a whole diffrent story to him and by far a better serial killer than him

156 bodys
taken over 600 bullets
spawned 11 film's
6ft 3 300 lbs

oh and yes like the rest of my other killers he kills men as well!

Ok. There are several points to be made, first of which you are making the assumption that those who do not have the same opinion as you are the ones who "don't get it".
Secondly, the title of this thread is 'The Greatest Movie Killer'. That suggests to me that it is open to discussion which is why other forumers have offered their opinion. In your opinion Norman Bates is not worthy of the title, in my opinion and many others, he is.
Thirdly, you state that your poll stands for a high body count. You have already established that Jason Vorhees has the highest body count, so if that is your criteria, and the answer has already been pre-determined, then why on earth have a poll? You already know the answer to your question within context of your criteria, which does not allow for any debate, as there is only one foregone conclusion, so why make the thread in the first place? The whole idea behind a poll is to understand other forumers opinions, and to have a general understanding of what people think. However, if you have an actual statistical criteria, then it makes others opinions redundant.
Fourthly, I would greatly dispute that Leatherface is in any way more respected than Norman Bates. Norman Bates is generally regarded as one of cinema's most significant characters. Leatherface is higly regarded as a genre character, but in no way considered a great in the way that Norman Bates is.
Fithly, even though I hadn't made the comparison between Myers and vorhees, I have to say that there is no coincidence that both characters wear masks. Of course Jason has a different mask, no studio would be stupid enough to give their character the same identity as another. 'Halloween' arguably created the slasher genre, 'Friday the 13th' followed rather quickly.
Sixthly, a murderer is a murderer. I fail to see how the sex of their victims makes them any less weak or cowardly.
And finally, surely the criteria for this debate should have been cinematic influence and quality of films. The 'Friday the 13th' franchise is hardly indicative of decent cinema. Other than the original, 'Jason x' was the only other decent addition to the series. That is only my opinion of course.

I couldn't say who the 'greatest' killer was, as they're all different and people have different opinions of them, but the scariest two for me are still Freddy and Leatherface. However Norman Bates is always very underrated, its the shower scene itself which hypes up the movie

Out of this list, Leatherface is scariest, as its the effect of realism that scares me and those who say, that could never happen arw rong it could happen any day.
