I've got to admit The Ring gave me a fright when I first watched it.

The Haunting (the orginal) is a great film scared the hell outta me, the fact you never see anything makes it even more scary and apparantly all the scary sounds were taken from real haunted houses.
And IT I hate clowns!!!!!!!!!!!

I saw The Exorcist when I was eighteen and it scared me so much I can't watch it to this day. I also have a thing about zombie movies, can't watch them at all. I think Poltergiest was scary too, but I was jittery with a monumental hangover so that might have contributed to that! I remember the first time I watch Flatliners, my imagination was racing ahead regarding what was going to happen. I 'watched' most of it hidden behind a cushion, too scared to look and see what was going to happen! Years later I plucked up the courage to watch it all and couldn't believe how scared I had been to watch it. It just proved to me that the most scary thing is what your own imagination can conjure up. Things far scarier than you will find in the worst horror movie.

P.S. I thought the Sixth Sense was really scary too, especially when you think its all over and the little guy 'sees' a dead victim of a car crash that had just happened up ahead of him and his mother. It only scares the first time as you don't know what is happening.

Yes definitely, the Ring, was well good, and totally plausible. We watched Hide and Seek again last nite, with Robert De Niro, excellent. And even after watching it again, gave me a couple of bad dreams through the nite. Kept having to wake myself up, to escape. R.I.P. Charlie Stubbs R.I.P. Snuffles/Padfoot TWS, my man

The Exorcist is my number one scary movie of all time.
The images, excellent use of sound and just everything about it scares the hell out of me and it's not one of those 'jump in your seat' films - it's more psychological. The last time I saw this film (it's my fave film of all time but, I've only ever seen it twice - ironic, eh?) I couldn't sleep properly or get it out of my head for about 3 days.
Another freaky film is probably The Blair Witch project. I was one of those people that having heard all the hype and finally getting to see it - I was rather disappointed, however, that night I really had trouble sleeping. It's one of those films that gets under your skin.
Rosemary's Baby - again, like the Exorcist, it's an excellent use of images and sound. Mia Farrow's reaction chilled me to the bone when she exclaimed 'His eyes!'
Suspiria - the use of colour, lighting and sound in this film is amazing. It's like an assault on the senses. I really would highly recommend Argento to anyone who is interested in horror.
Long Weekend - part of the Australian 'New Wave' films of the 70s. A very underrated psychological thriller/horror that pre-dates Blair Witch.

The film that really scared me was "House on Haunted Hill"(1999). I couldn't go sleep for ages, whenever I closed my eyes images would appear. Really scary I was about 10.

there's this film called The Blob and I watched it on my own when I was 8. It's old so the visual effects are really bad, even at that time. It wasn't even that scary a film, but I still get freaked out by it. My sister loves it and she's a few years younger than me, but I cannot be in the same room while she's got it on because I get too scared. A Chinese film called Dumplings has left me permanantly scarred, and I only saw the short adapted version of it for Three Extremes on the Tartan Asia thing. The second film on that one, Korean film Cut was also rather freaky. Audition had me freaked out as well...so disturbing. I've seen a couple of Miike Takeshi's films now and I really respect his work. His horror films are, well and truely, horror films. I can't watch Ichi the Killer. It's a bit freaky too. Now, while the American version of The Grudge 2 had me in tears of laughter, the Japanese version of it, Ju-On had me hiding behind my pillow and I still check in dark corners to see if anything is there.
~*~Why Should I Wake When I'm Half Past Dead?~*~ I can has a cheezeburger? Whatchu mean I iz 2 sml 4 chzbrgr? =( I've not been to a gig in sooooooo long. I'm getting withdrawl symtoms! #11 of the "I am thoroughly annoyed by Kress and/or Mcdean" club. #8 We love Elliot's new look club.

The original Texas Chainsaw Massacre – how its brutal in such a casual way. Leatherface goes about his business like he is working with meat.
Jacobs Ladder freaked me out. “Is anybody home” and the hospital scene. Films with creepy Imagery, time going funny, distorted faces, peoples eyes going dark stuff like that.

Hell yeah!
THE RING - when samerah emerges from the tv screen
WOLF CREEK - a horror slasher film with character development (you actually care about the characters) so when they are terrified so are you
SAW - fear comes from anticipating how the characters are going to harm themselves, and then you seeing them doing it in full detail

I remember being utterly freaked out by the original Japanese Ring film. Bothered me for weeks after and I always thought I was fairly unbotherable. The Wicker Man didn't scare me as such but it's one of those films that stays in your head - I am of course talking of the original film not the rubbish remake.
