i thought it was pretty extreme, especially the part with the meathooks and the tongue part (cringeworthy to say the least).
But i also thought it had a really good storyline and insane, but interesting, characters (i couldn't tell how good the acting was because i watched it in Japanese, but it seemed okay to me), a few factors which are sometimes not given enough attention in extreme (or gore) films.
If you haven't seen it and are a fan of horror and world cinema, i would strongly reccomend. (Even though the end confused me a bit.)
Thats why you get your copy from over seas Black Regent lol. I loved it. Its pretty high in my Top 100 Films. My fave bit is when he takes out that womans leg with the blad n the back of his boot. Still not all that extreme in my view though.
Yeah, I purchased the 3 Disc Special Collectors Box set only to discover afterwards that it is the censored version. Apparently there are 11 cuts in the UK version, totalling three minutes and 15 seconds. The cut scenes seem to be any bit with "extreme sexualised violence". Interesting, as I thought the version I watched was pretty sick...although fascinating. Now I feel compelled to see what the original is like. Shall try and find an uncensored copy.
Just to say, that we are still looking to gather many more responses about Ichi the Killer, and the other films in the study, in our anonymous online questionnaire. It will be running for another five weeks, and we are equally interested to hear from people who have seen the cut UK version and the uncut version.
