The fire extinguisher scene in 'Irreverible'. I counted 27 hits (if memory serves me well), until there was almost nothing left. Very realistic and very shocking.

Totally agree, also if you include near death the scene where Monica Bellucci gets raped was the most distressing piece of film I've ever watched.

Yes, definitely made me feel a little queasey and I've got a strong stomach for anything extreme. Near the start too which didn't help!

Totally agree with Dr Gonzo, face on the wall in Ichi and the flymo in Braindead. I'd also like to add the ladle incident in Gozu and the reporter's death in Hot Fuzz, involving part of the church, had me in stitches. There's also a lovely scene in Azumi 2 involving lots and lots of really sharp wires. And I know this isn't strictly a death scene, but the bit in Severance when they couldn't get the guy out of the bear trap and it kept slamming shut on his leg was jolly!

ooh ooh almost forgot; MPD Psycho. You don't get to see much but for subject matter the idea of children getting the tops of their heads sliced open and their exposed brains being used as plant pots is pretty nasty.

The most vivid death I like is when Steve the pilot in Dawn of the Dead has his brain's plastered all over the walls after becoming zombified.

The best i can think of was at the start of Ghost Ship. so many dead so quickly and limbs everywhere.

best deaths Hellraiser - Frank getting torn apart with chains and hooks. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (original) meathook scene. American Psycho - Patrick kills Paul Allen with an Axe to the face while he listens to “Hip to be square”
Pet Sematary - Gage, truck, shoe, NOOOOOOOOO!

The best death there never was is at the end of "Dawn of the Dead" (Original) Galen Ross' character was to jump in to the rotating blades of a helicopter. For technical reasons this was changed to her and Ken Foree's character flying into the sunset.

Has no one mentioned the guy in Robocop who drives into the toxic waste..then staggers out and gets run over?
Saw the movie again recently and was surprised how violent it was...didn't remember it being so intense.

I'm sure there's more violent deaths (after reading this thread there seems to be some VERY violent ones I haven't seen...) but the one in Silence of the Lambs where Hannibal bites the cops face then it later pans up to him listening to music with blood over his clothing before torturing the cop again. Urgh then later when he peels his face from his own. Very chilling.
