I finally got around to watching it last week. Definately 'extreme', but in a way I was'nt actually ahocked by it that much. Something that I found worring slightly!
I was reading about it on imdb.com where someone decribed it as 'blood porn'! Obviously they hav'nt seen many extreme movies. Tnis film is actually very suggestive rather than rubbing your nose in the blood and gore, and it was much more effective for that. I loved the split screen effect at the end of the film especially.
On a whole it reminded me of a little of Claire Denis' 'Trouble Every Day, not as much in plot or effect but it was slightly similar.
Totally agree. I thought of Trouble Every Day when I first saw it although Dans Ma Peau is slightly faster in storyline. Both very good indie films and more unsettling for me psychologically rather than visually.
I felt it stopped at the right time. The film didn't work. There was no pychodynamic motive to suggest the reasons why this woman sought this form of relief. She was the nutty nut in a flimsy shell. It was a real performance by the director/actor,but sometimes I flinched wondering how much more gore I had to wade through. She had job promotion and a supportive partner. In such a context she would not be able to hold down that job,and the guilt and recrimination with her partner would not support that relationship. So what was I missing? It seemed about transgressing boundaries that are taboo. It reminded me there are certain French performance artists that self harm by cutting their bodies like a living sculpture in front of an audience, depending how much the audience can(or want to ) take.To watch was torture.Obsession as disease.
