I want to take the kids to Florida to be dragged around the theme parks in late August this year. I have been told that it is hurricane season and don't want to risk losing thousands of pounds if I am going to spend it indoors hiding from the wind and rain.
Has anyone got any experience of Florida in August and does it get really bad there?

A friend of mine went in September a few years ago & a hurricaine hit, they had to spend a couple of nights in the main building of the hotel complex with everyone else, it soon passed & they were'nt affected much more than that. I'd say it's well worth researching for the best time to go Smile

I've been in august before and managed to avoid the hurricanes but it was SO hot, humid and sticky. On the flip side - everywhere has aircon. Just go, the kids will love it!

August is hurricane season in florida and even if its a bit windy the rides in theme parks might be closed, this often happens at that time of year in the magic kingdom and universal parks. you might be better changing your holidays to june or early july Ninja

Hi. Went to Florida 2 years ago end of August. The weather is hot but bearable (not as hot as July). There is a torrential downpour everyday but you can see it coming and make way undercover. It doesn't spoil the fun as it dries up very quickly. There was a hurricane on our last weekend and we were stranded in the hotel for 3 days! The good news is we're going back this August so it hasn't put us off!! Hope you decide to go, its fantastic, dont let the weather put you off - enjoy!!!!!

About 2 years ago I visited Florida in July.
This is the hurricane season. Every day around 4pm there was very big thunderstorms.

These lasted between 1/2 hour - 1 hour ... The rest of the day (before and after) was very hot weather!

I`ve been to Florida twice. Once in Jun, and once in december.

Apart from the daily torrential rain fall at around 4.30 pm which lasts for about half an hour, the weather was brilliant. Even so, the rain itself is not unwelcome, as it cools the air down, giving us brits a break from the heat. Half an hour after it stops raining, everywhere is bone dry again, and you wouldn`t think it had been raining at all.

Hurricane Season is usually around late June, July and early august.

Going in december is a wise decision, as it is still hot enough for us to be wearing Tshirts and shorts and get a sun tan(even if the locals are wearing hats and gloves!), but not hot enough to be uncomfortable.
