Our group of 8 which have just done Prague are considering Valencia for our next trip in October. Saw Holiday last night, but the report wasn't too clever - too much about the beach and out of town destinations. Anyone been and any recommendations for hotels?
We got our quaint hotel from one of the rough guides ( but get them to fax you confirmation) to be honest I was not overly impressed with Valencia as a city.
I was in Valencia last year for four days visiting a friend- so unfortunately I can't recommend any hotels- but I did enjoy my stay. However having lived in both Madrid and Seville, I found it hard to place Valencia in terms of identity. It's smaller than Madrid but similar in its busy, bustling nature and Old Town full of cobbled streets, tapas bars and restauarants. It's in a wealthier region than Seville so doesn't benefit from that shabby, antiquated kind of appeal that to me represents the 'real' Spain. All in all, I'd describe it as Madrid's little sister- good for a weekend, happily lacking in sunburnt British idiots- but not the most memorable place I've visited in Spain.
