We're thinking maybe Turkey this year. Package probably - self-catering. Family of four, so... beach, smallish hotel, swimming pool, the usual. We've enjoyed places like Corfu and Crete in the past, but fancy a change. Also, the last time we were in Greece a couple of years back, the Euro had suddenly made it quite expensive. So - Turkey. Anyone know anything about it/been there? Any recommendations and advice on any aspect - areas, weather, companies, anything (we know nothing!)-much appreciated.

I maybe totally wrong, but you really sound as though someone is holding a gun to your head.

I don't know your circumstances (how old the kids are, if they are kids etc) so I can't really recommend anything, but it seems common of Britons still that they 'plump' for the package holiday.

There's so much more out there!!

ive been to different parts, for holidays and i stayed there for a while. i know the place and the people well here are some hints-
take an empty suitcase (everythings very cheap, including fake designer gear) and buy your shorts, bikinis ect there.
take plenty of sun lotion its really hot! and also plenty of insect reppellant the mozzies are a nightmare without it.
keep your daughters away from the turkish men (if theyre old enough to have boyfriends) theyre all desperate for visas and are very good at conning the english girls!
drink the local beer its much cheaper and dont drink the tap water, it is drinkable but it can give you a dodgy stomach. also avoid ice in drinks unless youre sure its from bottled water.
go to the local market for bargains there will be one on at least once while youre there.
try jet ski-ing, mud baths and turkish baths. (do the turkish bath as soon as you get there it helps you get a great tan)
enjoy, turkeys great!

My family have been to turkey about 14 times between us, so we may be a little biased! But it really is great. I've just got back from 2 weeks in Kusadasi, which is the all round fave. The weather is already really hot, not unbearably so, and the locals are just so friendly. Plus it's perfectly placed to see lots of Turkish delights! Enjoy x

Hi i worked in Turkey for 6months during the summer,

It's fantastic everyone's so friendly and welcoming,

I wouldnt reccomend Bodrum though! the beach is soooo tiny (not even like a beack no sand just a few stones) and it's full of club 18-30 (who i worked for)

There is Gumbet down the road that has a fantastic beach
Where ever you decide hope you have fun!!!!

Did you go?? Did you like it??
I have been three times to Turkey, always to a resort called 'Side' (pronounced 'Seeday'). It's lovely there and the people are very friendly maybe too much so at times, but yes I like Turkey. Mind with the political unrest there presently I would think twice now for a while.

I went to marmaris last month (turkey for the first time) and loved it. At first i wasnt sure about turkey coz of the repuatation but i couldnt have been more wrong. the people are so nice, nightlife is fantastic and really cheap, oh and its lovely and hot. I'd definetly reccomend marmaris..ive got myself booked for next year already
