Prices in Prague have gone up considerably in the last few years, but that's understandable since the country's economy is still going through a transitional period, and the capital saw such an increase in tourism in such a short period of time; having said that, it's still cheaper than most places in Europe and has so much to offer!

The people there are lovely, the food is gorgeous, the architecture mesmerizing, the atmosphere amazing! There's literally something for everyone in Prague-whether you're there for the nightlife, the culture or just to chill out and try a bit of everything.

Since you're going with your other half, definitely try getting a table (for dinner) at the Bazaar restaurant in Nerudova; beatiful mediterranean/morrocan style interiors, live jazz(y) music, friendly but discreet and efficient service and a good drinks menu/wine list. Me and my boyfriend stayed at the appartments above it two years ago and we ate there most nights- we went in may, so the teracce was open for breakfast/lunch or just beer/coffee/snacks all day and all i can say is i'm glad we only went to the place 3days before we were due to leave, otherwise we wouldn't have seen the rest of Prague!

It's hard to expain the actual atmosphere of the place without doing it injustice, but i'm sure you'll know what i mean when you get there. I'm sure you'll have a great time!

Lovely city five years ago, it's now a mecca for stag and hen parties. Roll Eyes

Prices have gone up thanks to the tourist boom, particularly things like restaurants, bars and taxi's.

I've been twice and would probably recommend four or five nights at the most. There's not enough to keep you interested for a whole week.

Even when I went to Prague 2 years ago, local bussinesmen and bar/club owners made it clear that they weren't too pleased with stag/hen parties and many of them didn't even allow large groups of drunken foreigners through the doors!

My friends tell me that the situation is much better now and they hardly see any stag/hen parties around, although the weekends are still much busier than midweek.

As for there not being enough things to do to fill a week, well that's entirely down to how limited your interests are! We were there for 10 days and still felt we hadn't seen everything when we left..! I suppose it's a personal thing. Smile

Just returned from three nights in Prague. In January it was very quiet, but the weather was good you just need plenty of warm clothes. People suggested May/September as ideal times to go for warmer weather and fewer crowds. Avoid summer was also a common comment! There were 8 of us and we had a good time.

I felt I'd seen enough of the city after 2 or 3 days - one day each side of the river - but there are plenty of museums and indoor attractions which we didn't go to. If going for a week I'd be on a train to see the rest of the country.

We stayed at the Andels Hotel in the Andels district (£60 per room per night inc breakfast for 5 star luxury) - 20-30 minues walk from Charles bridge or four or five tram stops (20p a trip). Large shopping centre and local bars nearby.

Food was good and plentiful, but local food is not good for vegetarians, lots of meat and dumplings! We found a good Italian and Mexican near to the hotel which provided a welcome change. A meal for 8 in the Mexican comprising 11 cocktails, 2 bottles of wine, 4 starters, 8 mains, four sides and 6 deserts cost us £80.

Beer was about 25-30 crown per half litre in the local pubs (60-70p), more in the tourist areas - up to 60 (£1.50). We did go on a tram one day to the end of one of the lines to see the suburbs and beer was 22 crown.

Taxis are expensive - we used one from the hotel to get to the airport and it was £17 for a 20 minute journey. The trip to Charles Bridge would have cost £8. On street taxis will rip you off - have an idea of fares before using one and agree the price before getting in. In truth the trams are so plentiful there is no need to use taxis - they run until at least midnight.

Me and my boyfriend went to Prague 2 years ago at Christmas. It was cold but beautiful. All the Christmas stalls where out and the Old Square was made up beautifully. We stayed in the City Moran hotel near Charles Square - which although looks harmless during the day at night was a bit daunting and not very well lit. The hotel was about 20 minutes walk from the main shopping and tourist area. It was about 30 minutes walk from Charles Bridge - we had no need for taxis - in fact we found that travelling by taxis we missed out on a lot of hidden things. Neither did we get on trams mainly because the hotel itself advised against it - (reports on pickpocketing etc).

Prague is a beautiful place especially at Christmas - it's not too busy and not too quiet. One of my best memories was sitting on the Old Square in the freezing cold drinking hot chocolate.

Prices are wonderfully cheap (and the walk back to the hotel sobered us up) and you can easily eat a two course meal for under £13.00. We found that KFC and Mcdonalds where priced about the same as over here (if you wanted a 'quick' fix), but our advise would be to look around. Our advice however is to stay away from the Argentinian Steakhouse on Wenleslas square (sorry about spelling), the meal was lovely however if you don't want to see the history of the Falklands re-written don't go.

My last piece of advice is to book your taxi to Airport through your hotel - it only cost us £12.00.

Our taxi was booked through the hotel. I suppose that demonstrates one of the price rises in two years.

No problem on the trams - they were very quiet outside rush hour, but we were warned of pickpockets whoich operate in all the main tourist areas.

If you get the chance take the night time tour, it's a stunning city at night time. When we were there about a year ago, there were lots of reports re pick pockets. We never saw or heard anything to worry us though.

Prague used to be lovely, now - overdone, overpriced, and to be honest if I want to see drunken Brits peeing in door ways, throwing up in the street, looking for bovver and generally making us proud to be British, well..... I'd go to Blackpool.
We have since discovered Dresden - it has all the attributes of Prague with none of the drawbacks. In future we will stay in or near Dresden and get the train to Prague or drive (about one and half hours) then return to a city that is still beautiful, Britishless, and a vulture culture's dream.
On second thought I don't know why I'm telling the world about it - please just behave when you get there and no I do not want to see the tattoos on your arses so keep em on eh!

We went to Praque three years ago, and while it is a beautiful place that everyone should see, we found after 4 days we where 'bored'. I'd recommend it as a place to go with maybe a couple of friends as we found it really unfriendly and rude and we wouldn't enjoyed some extra company in the evenings.

Saying that - the castle is beautiful, the zoo (a good bit out of town) was lovely and Charles Bridge is amazing.

We stayed at a place called the Lion Hotel, which wasn't really a hotel, but an old school that was converted. But it was really cheap (about 30euro a night per room), and with lovely fresh beer at 50p a pint and a 3 course meal for around 8euro it was hard to beat money-wise.

The only time I'd consider visiting Praque again would be for the Christmas Markets, they are supposed to be amazing.

I was there for a week last summer and didn't see a single stag party, so don't be put off by its reputation for that.

OH and I stayed at the Riverside Hotel, which is on the castle side of the Vltava river, about 2 bridges down from the Charles Bridge. I'd highly recommend it - luxurious, very friendly and pretty reasonably priced.

If you're looking for a drinking spot with character, try the Golden Tiger. Vaclav Havel's favourite - he took Bill Clinton there after the revolution.

As someone once said: "If you've got nothing nice to say about anybody - come and sit by me."

If you ever get an oppoutunity to go to Prague around Christmas time, definately take it! I went from the 16th to the 20th of December a couple of years ago, and it was gorgeous, with all the snow and huge xmas trees! It was very cold, but also very worth it!

Prague was OK but I preferred Budapest.

If you want somewhere romantic then Paris or Venice, both are lovely, especially Paris in the Spring.

Prague is definitely the best! I went back in April for business a a party that a mate organised and it was really good. Now I’ve got to organise one and I’m going to use the same company and we’re gonna have the full works!
