Can anyone recommend a particular area of Greece or Greek Island? Looking for a relaxing hol but not too quiet. Been to Crete a couple of times, Kos & Santorini, but interested in opinions & experiences of the lesser known hidden gems!

Mykonos is great fun, although it's getting crowded, but I remember the night life being v good and lots of good places to eat.(Shirley Valentine's island if you have ever seen the film.) Paros, Spetsai and Hydra if you want to stick with the Aegean - all interesting places, and Aegina has a lovely temple if you go for culture. They are a ferry ride from Athens. Mykonos has an airport, and it's next door to the sacred isle of Delos. Beware the meltemi wind in the Aegean, but you probably know all about that.

the only greek island i have been to is corfu we stayed at ipsos - it was our honeymoon -and the best holiday .its fairly quiet - theres a few cocktail bars and one club (this was 3 years ago)

loads of nice resturants, shops, cash machine . Its not far to corfu town, either by bus or car really easy to get to and plenty of organised trips to the rest of the island and paxos. But the beach is shingle Big Grin

Paros is nice. Quieter but still lots to go and see, beaches fabulous and you can get boats out to other ones throughout the day. Plenty of bars and restaurants a couple of discos. Santorini I also really liked.

I've also been to Corfu, Rhodes, Zante and Crete but stayed in bustling resorts on those islands which you probably don't really want. I hear Kefalonia is very nice, and Skiathos.

I've done Zante, Corfu and Santorini. Santorini is beatiful but boring (two days there is more than enough) Zante is better and there is much more to do and see but of the three, I think Corfu is the only one to which I would fancy a return visit. Ive also holidayed in Athens and thats great for the more cultural among us.

Rhodes Town is fantastic. It has a blend of the old and new. The old town is so beautiful to wander round either during the day or night and there is also the new part where there are surprisingly cool bars and a nightclub with live music at nights. You can also get boat trips to Lindos, Simi, Kos and Turkey for good prices. For me, it was the best Greek resort I've ever visited.

I've done many of the Greek Islands and have to say Crete offers the best weather, hotels, apartments solitude or nightlife. Aghios Nicholas is fantastic as you can have great night life or retreat back a bit into gorgeous tavernas with friendly Greeks

Ive just arrived back to the UK from Zante (Zakynthos) The place was great, the accommodation was fantastic, the people was very nice and polite ... but ... the real let down was the food.
------
The food on the island isn't very good. Any one in the party I was with didn't enjoy their meals until our last night. We visited Manos Grill.

------
I stayed in Tsilivi (In Zante)
The entertainment their is quite good.
The best evening entertainment,I would say is Bowl m Over.
It has bowling, mini-golf, pool tables and arcade games. It is quite cheap too.
------

accommodation
I stayed in Erietta Complex in Akrotiri, which is really near Tsilivi. This plave was beautiful and did great food. (The only place that served good food)
A link to it is ... :

Hi

Just back from Poros. We had a brilliant time and have booked again for October. Gorgeous scenery and you can use it as a base to explore the other islands in the saronic gulf. Plenty of Tavernas, cafes and cocktail bars. There's even a couple of nightclubs on the island.

Travel from the airport by bus down to the port of Piraus, 3 euros, and there's a bus every 10 mins and then the hydrofoil 50 mins over to Poros, 19 euros.

You can book studios/ apartments online for between 30e-70 e per night. Alternatively, as soon as step of the hydrofoil or ferry, there's two small travel agents on the front who'll find rooms for you.

It was our best holiday ever.

I love the area around Nafplion, which used to be the old capital of Greece and is a little gem. There are a few small resorts near there, such as Tolon or Drepano. Of the two, Tolon is probably a little livlier. Drepano is a tiny resort, probably known only to Greeks. Greece tends to keep quite a few of its summer and winter resorts to itself! From the area, you can visit Ancient Corinth and Corinth Canal, the ancient theatre of Epidavros, and the archaeological site of Mycenae. It is about 2 hours drive from central Athens. Further north, one of the popular places for Greeks to visit is Volos but I've never been there, personally. Styn ya sas.

Lov Rhodes been there 4 times in all.

First time stayed in Rhodes town but that was many years ago.

Past three times, stayed just outside Faliraki. Faliraki I hear you cry. The wild night life is there if you want it but just on the outskirts was lovely - didn't have any trouble.

Lindos is fab and it'w worth taking the boat ride from where ever you are. On the way back boat stops in a bay and you can dive off the boat and have a swim.

Anthony Quinn Bay is worth a visit but get there early to grab a spot.

Also worth hiring a car to have a look round the island.

Highly recommend it.

The beauty of Greece and the Greek islands is that you can find exactly what you want, whatever that may be. There are loud, brash, party resorts and there are teeny fishing villages and everything in between.

I do think it's a bit of a shame that the brash resorts grew from places with fantastic beaches, but I suppose that was inevitable.
