I don't know which I find more sad/disturbing.

The possibility of a Tsunami hitting England, or the fact you've been to that crap mire three times in the space of two months.

I fail to see how a volcano erupting off the coast of Africa would effect Africa, never mind the UK.

When have Spain or France been effected by Etna or Vesuvius?

Use your head.

If you go there 3 times in one year, do you go independently and travel about? Please tell me you do not go to PDLA every time?? I went once and that was more than enough for me!!

I second that. Went to PDLA and Los Christanios when I was 18 for a girls holiday, that was 12 years ago. Vowed never to go to Tenerife again and I wont.

I just want to misbehave, I just want to be your slave, Oh you ain't never had nothing I wanted, but I want it all, I just cant figure out...Nothin' Confused

It is a well known fact to ex-patriots in tenerife that this is what is going to happen.
(Also, the story about the affect of the volcano landslide <therefore tsunami> on southern England got reported in the daily mirror around the 11th of feb.)So dont say "Use your head" thank you.

Also i go on holiday there as i like the climate and the whole place generally.

Many (including you) say its rough, drug-orientated etc. but its alot better than round my way.

but dont get me wrong i travel to other places too. ive seen the world and love a holiday but to chill out i like tenerife. thank you.

Any particular hidden gems to recommend? I don't want to judge Tenerife just by PDLA, same as there's a hell of a lot more to the Spanish mainland than the Costa del Fish & Chips. Would be interested to hear from a Tenerife 'regular' what is to be recommended.

The daily mirror, eh?

Well that puts me in my place, being the fact based publication that it is.

Once again, use your head.

Anything really. Was thinking about booking a flight-only trip and driving around to explore the 'real' Tenerife, away from the neon lights and all-day breakfasts.

Hotels, restaurants, any must-see/do things?

I went on a coach trip up to the viewpoint at the Parador near Mt Teide and reckoned it was worth a trip back independently and spend some more time around there.

erm...right it was also in the daily mail as well as the arona county council of southern tenerifes newspaper written in english for ex-patriots.so yet again use "your head". thank you again. There is no point in these publications making this up (especially the later) as these are scientists who quoted their findings. the government of spain/tenerife would not let this story become widespread as the inevitable being less tourism, less economy, less jobs etc."use your head" and stop nitpicking what you havent got a clue about.

you dont know the first thing about the conservationists and scientists and what they investigate and keep tabs on up mount teide.

"use your head"

Well i have to say yove seen the best of it, but i dont know if you seen the mainland conservation work going on.

anyway, the place to visit is "loro parque" its zoo is quite brilliant(if you like that sort of thing. but i would say the place to visit at the moment is definately venice.tenerife is way too touristy for a good backpack.

So why did you feel the need to start the post, almost as though you were 'breaking' the news to us?

Anyway, a friend of my girlfriend is a keen geologist and (as we live in Nottingham) he often is in touch with people at the British Geological Survey (BGS) in Keyworth, Notts.

To cut a long story short, they rubbished this as bo11ocks (my words, they were apparently slightly more polite).

The volcano will go, although an exact time cannot be calculated and the chances of it effecting the UK are so very slim. There are pleanty of other places to absorb the impact of any seabourne activity.

And as for it being 'a well known fact of ex-pats'. They moved to Tenerife. What do they know? Big Grin

Erm, this followed my post which contained the words.....

I'm obviously not disputing it will erupt, what I'm disputing is the ludicrous claim that it will effect the UK.

Oh well, I guess time will tell.

I'll leave you to get back to your Thomson summer sun brochure now.

hi all, Peurto du la Cruz in the North of Tenerife is a fantasic, cosmopoloitan city in every sense of the word "City". However, it's not as warm as the south and can be very over cast.Hubby works in the travel industry, so we attended a crappy conference thingy there for 4 days. I was really impressed with what i saw of the north of the Island (4 days a bit limited, i know). Can't speak for the resorts as i never had a chance to visit any.

Thats my tuppence worth i s'pose Cool

Agrre with ^ above....

when I first visited Tenerife PDLA did not even exist, the last time I went to that side of the Island I thought it was scruffy....

Try the other side, Puerto de la cruz, and, if you like self catering and you book a package holiday I recommend Thomson's at the Casablanca apartments or if you like a Hotel then next door to these apartments is a Thomson Gold hotel 'THe El Tope' both accommodations are very nice, I stayed at the Casablanca Jan 05, I always go SC on holiday and this is the best I've had in the Canaries by far.........

Much much nicer in Puerto de la Cruz, especially if you go for new year ........

yes the south is fairly horrible, but there are nice places in the north and it's not always cloudy. Icod de los Vinos, Santiago del Teide, Chinyero volcanic park, Teno National park in the northwest for walks, Masca, Taganana - Tenerife can be beautiful and it's got unique vegetation. Shame though about the greedy government and the developers.
