Thanks for the advise jacab The venetian coast looks quite nice as its near the beach and all - don't know how good Italian beaches are, but they're undoubtedley better than anything in England! I've been having a look around the web today and found a place called Villa Pallero near Siena, which isn't near the coast but is close to Florence, Pisa and a few other places. I live by the coast now so somewhere further inland is fine by me. But what does everyone think of this Villa Pallero place?

Another place you might consider is Nice in the South of France. There are loads of cheap flights there at the minute and it's only a short distance from there to the Italian border via Monte Carlo and Monaco. We went there some time back and were sorry that we didn't split our holiday by spending the second week in Italy.

Nice may not be too bad of an idea as its so close to Italy anyway. I was looking for something that would give time to relax but also enough time to head on and see a lot of local attractions with the family too. That's sort of the reason I was interested in as it seems close to Florence and Pisa as well as a few other worthwhile locations. But Nice may not be a bad idea, has anyone been there recently?

Italy has so much to offer of course.
As a start, you can't beat Venice (totally unlike any other place), Rome or Florence / Pisa.

We went to Italy and toured Tuscany last year. The romance I imagined was totally drowned in the mass of tourists in Florence. But a hidden beauty was Lucca halfway between Florence and Pisa. I would recommend the Green Hotel in Pisa which is a converted convent.

I've only ever been to Sorrento but I can highly recommend it. It's got close proximity to Vesuvius, Pompei, the Amalfi coast (some beautiful towns along there and a gorgeous scenic drive) and Capri.
