Hi - anybody got any tips on where's a great place to stay or things to do in Mauritius apart from the normal beach things. I'm toying with the idea of going in September. Any tips/ideas are greatly appreciated

the maritim hotel is the only hotel i would stay at over there. it is beautiful been there 4 times

I agree with xemillax. I got married at the maritim. It's a beautiful hotel, not too far from the capital Port Louis - worth a visit.

Others things to see & do (get the hotel to book you taxis - we found this a far cheaper option)

Balaclava Ruins
Dutch Ruins
Ile aux Aigrettes (nature reserve)
Black River Gorges
Ganga Talao - Grand Bassin (pilgrimage site)
Vanilla crocidle park

I stayed in the Merville Beach Hotel in Grand Baie but there is heaps to do. Even learn about the Dodo! I had a wonderful holiday there. If you've not already been do go to Il Aux Cerfs it really is Paradise personified. Also the Chameral, as already mentioned the Black River Gorges, see the Pamplemousse Gardens etc, soooooooo much to see!
