I'm obviously not disputing it will erupt, what I'm disputing is the ludicrous claim that it will effect the UK.

Why should it not affect the UK?

It`s claimed that when the volcano erupts, a very large chunk of the volcano will slide straight off the side into the sea (as has happened in the past) causing a Tsunami that WILL hit the south of England. How big the Tsunami will be is anybodies guess - could be a few inches, a few feet, or a few hundred feet.

But a Tsunami WILL happen when the volcano erupts.

This news even made the TV (my local station being Meridian), and one of the experts who agreed with the prediction was from Southampton University - he who was on all those new programmmes explaining to the viewers of Sky News etc about how a Tsumani was formed.

And I`d much rather believe HIM, than a "friend of your girlfriend"

Did you know that the Boxing Day Asian Tsunami eventually made it`s way round the world and washed up on the coast of Britain?

I'm sure the people on the west coast of Sri Lanka thought it was ludicrous that an earthquake so far away could affect them - until it did.

Even the people who actually FELT the earthquake were not expecting a Tsunami, and they got swamped less than 30 minutes later.

Apparently a lot of previously known "facts" had to be revised after the Asian Tsunami.

Anyone see that programme on TV about 3/4 weeks ago that showed that the Bristol Channel was swamped by a 20 foot Tsunami around 400 years ago, caused by an undersea earthquake just south of Eire? In the historical documents of the time it was referred to as a great flood -the word Tsunami not being coined in the English Langauge at that time as nobody knew Japanese. Smile

A volcano is very different to a '9 on the richter scale' earthquake.

But I don't give a shit anymore, believe what you want, I just hope if you're right that idiot Stu is somewhere down on the beach when it happens......

A respected employee of the British Geological Survey (BGS) called Anthony Prestwick, but whatever.

Just how different is a Tsumani caused by the Asian Earthquake is from the Tsunami caused by Krakatoa erupting 120 years ago????

Krakatoa`s eruption was heard and seen miles away. And the effects of it`s eruption was seen in the UK.

tenerife is and always will be a place in peoples memories more for the good times they had there than the snobs who grade the place as a tip. People should know what to expect from a young persons resort (PDLA) in general. But there are quiet and romantic places around too and like i said when i started the topic under a different name, i went with my now ex girlfriend and had a brilliant time with her.

The possibility of a Tsunami hitting England, or the fact you've been to that crap mire three times in the space of two months.

I fail to see how a volcano erupting off the coast of Africa would effect Africa, never mind the UK.

When have Spain or France been effected by Etna or Vesuvius?

Use your head.

yes, it's true, they showed on TV about this eruption and tsunami. Tenerife is like a big volcano and when it erupts, half of the globe will be serioulsy affected, even America, first the African shore, then England South, it's a well-known fact and very very scary! Everybody better move inland ASAP.

I know I'm probably really late with the post but I just want to say just how snobby people are on here. It's p to people where they holiday. Maybe everybody doesn't enjoy looking at fields all day and wants a bit of fun, it doesn't make you a bad person.

I also think that it's wrong to stereotpye the whole of the south of tenerife unless you have been there. I recently stayed about 20 minutes away from Playa Las Americas and it was beautiful.

And as for this whole 2019 situation. Since when can humans predict what nature can do???

I agree with the last post. Each to their own holiday I say. What makes 1 person think their holiday is more worthy than the next? If you've had a great time on your holiday then it's been a success regardless of where it was.
