I'm planning a driving holiday in Europe, but some people are very negative about the idea! No sense of adventure, I say....
But I'd be interested to know.... has anyone had good or bad experiences of such a holiday?? Or suggestions of places to visit/avoid when travelling by car?!?!
Well my brother 'did' France and Spain on his motorbike some years ago. Sick of friends letting him down over holidays he branched out and went on his own!
The good thing is you can avoid the tourist traps this way - and driving in Europe is apparently a pleasure compared to the UK.
Why don't you plot a route, have a good search on the internet about any towns you may pass through on the way, and the availability of accommodation etc. (or will you perhaps take a tent?).
My brother thought it was great, you do spend a lot of time on your own, but you will see things and meet people that you would never do if you weren't. You could get some ideas from books by Bill Bryson, I'll check whether he did Europe, I'm sure he did.

We have driven all over Europe. It is the best way to see it. You must remember to follow local traffic laws, i.e triangle and hi-visabilty vests for Spain, first aid kit for Germany etc. All to need is a good road atlas and you are away. It is much more enjoyable driving in Europe than it is in the U.K. Richard Photos and other stuff from our travels.
start in england, cross the channel, drive through France through spain, ferry over to tunisia and then drive around between the great towns, roman ruins, desert. 4x4 would be handy but not essential if you keep out if desert
