(to everyone else, dont mention actual cporporal punishment. we all know and i'd rather not start flame wars)
what about a level exams instead of o level?
or even tackle the pupils who have nothing at all (no GCSEs or have failed school or something) like the reallt big trouble makers. worse than scott or something!
A borstal situation though interesting would be REATHER problematic.
Whu not step it one down and go for two seperate approved schools for the two genders.
Or how about setting upa one month school with teachers from countries where the education is more formal. There is no shortage of teachers in the UK from Australia [THERE THE 6 TH FORMERS ARE STILL IN UNIFORM AND STILL GET DETENTIONS] or South Africa maybe?
Other ideas would be a military run svchool as in America?
Maybe I could mention my BAD GIRLS ARMY idea again.
In my school and indeed all schools where I live you have to wear a school uniform in sixth form. I'm in Northern Ireland though, in England is sixth form a lot less formal?
Over here the uniform does in ways resemble those that they have on the show ie. blazers, shirts, ties
How about finding out if corporal punishment really does work? I know you couldn't use kids as its illigal but how about young adults? 18 year old girls and boys could do 50's/60's style A levels and if their bad the Headmaster could legaly smack their bum's, See then if they still misbehave lol!
that really would be very interesting - tun the first ten days without CP, then have a full addembly and let the Head anounce due to poor behaviour by certain pupils the cane will be introduced.
Watching the changes of personality will be most interesting indeed
What about looking further back to Primary school, and have the kids in year 6 (final year of primary school) sit the 11+ exam, and see how they do. Chances are the gulf between the 11+ standard and today's standard of SATS at age 11 is not likely to be as wide. You could either get a set of kids who are on course to achieve level 5 and see if they all pass, or get kids from a wider range of abilities and see whether 20% would pass (based on the pass mark from then).
I think they should do a simular situation, i.e, girls versus boys but it should be humanities and languages centred. We'll see what comprehensive school pupils will make of Latin!
