We are hoping to finally start doing up our kitchen in the next few months. I have seen Howdens kitchens recommended here before and wondered how I can find out what styles they do? I'd rather check on the internet or get a brochure rather than trek down to a branch with kids in tow. They don't seem to have a website, though.
I am probably going for a white or cream shaker style - does anyone know if they do something like that?
I am not too sure, but I think Howdens is part of the MFI group, are meant to be cheaper, so I would think they would sell roughly similar styles and designs as MFI, so you could go into thier website and get an idea.
does anyone know if you need a trade card to buy from Howdens or can the public just walk in and buy a kitchen, also i've heard that Howdens kitchen come already assembled is that true also?
You would need to go through your builder to use Howdens and they only have a limited variety of the MFI range. I think it is the Schreiber range and yes they do come ready made up which is good in some ways but means you need space to store them before installation. Although they can be good on price if you get them during a sale, we found other units cheaper elsewhere for my fathers kitchen with nicer handles. It is the white goods that they all make their money on. If you buy washing machines etc on the net you'll get them half the price but may have to alter the doors on integrated units slightly.
Well this was a couple of years ago now and we bought them from Wickes though I have to admit to having a husband who actually likes building flat packs! We got a good price as the salesman was easy to deal with and we really liked this style which IMHO was nicer than MFI/ Howdens at that time. I think handles are important as you have a lot of them and the light wood of the units looked good quality. Saying that, I think all flat pack kitchens are much the same, we have a totally unfitted kitchen ourselves and can do that as it is very large. We wanted to make my Dad's kitchen easy for him to manage, he is 83 and so had a tower oven unit, glass hob (should have in retrospect had an induction hob though he loves the one he has got) and best of all a pull out larder unit. He can find things easily and doesn't have to bend much. I have to admit he was reconfiguring a lot of his cupboards no sooner than the builders had left with extra shelves for mountains of tinned fruit and other items required incase WW111 were to break out unexpectedly!!!
thanks for replys guy's, its just that me and my wife have just sold our flat and had an offer accepted on a house, theres no real chain apart from us so hopefully everything will go ok, once we exchange the owners were buying from have said we can have the keys to do work as theres no central heating and kitchen needs doing, so i'm trying to source all my bits and bobs now ready so if we do exchange i can get on and order stuff, thats why i was looking at Howdens as there kitchens seem to be ready assembled which means i only need a chippie for a day or two as our kitchen will be tiny, and being our first house money is tight, but thanks for comments got a feeling illl be on here quite a bit
Does Howdens do the Hygena range from MFI? Was not planning on spending alot on my kitchen, and that range is cheaper than the Schreiber stuff (is the Woodstock one i like, Ivory). Waiting for a quote for a fitter, using the Howden kitchen. But would i be cheaper just getting the Hygena kitchen from MFI? Oh the choices......
